Incompetence

Another Monday. Another Mom saga. But first, I'll recap the weekend.

It was a lovely weekend. I left school around 10ish and got to Maggie's by 11:15. After a quick lunch, we headed to hang with Mom for a bit. She was really good. She looked good, sounded good, had little if any confusion and her sense of humor was back. While there, a lady came in to say that she had been cleared to go home Monday which thrilled Mom to no end. She was so excited and I wondered how she would be able to wait two days.

Maggie and I left after a few hours and headed home. Eva had ski club on Friday so Maggie and I just made dinner and hunkered down to watch some Netflix. We had to go out at 10:00 to pick Eva up (just a couple miles away) and I can't believe I stayed up so late! Once we got home, we sat and chatted for a bit. Turns out two kids broke a leg skiing and Eva said there were a LOT of injuries. Thankfully she wasn't among the hurt.

Saturday Maggie and I got up and had some breakfast. I went over to Mom's and took care of the kitties and cleaned a little to prepare for Mom's homecoming. Trip drove up for the day and we all met there around noon. Mom was still good but I could tell that she had a bit more trouble getting certain thoughts out. And she did say at one point, "I don't know why I can't go home tomorrow!" I explained that they had certain things that had to be done and couldn't release her over the weekend. She seemed mollified by that a bit.

We ended up staying for a couple hours (Trip stayed a bit longer) and then headed home. Eva went to a friends Saturday night (although we did eat dinner together) and Maggie and I just continued watching the series on Netflix we'd started Friday.

Sunday Maggie and I got up and made breakfast. Maggie picked Eva up at 9:00. Maggie's plans were to get everything ready for Mom's homecoming. I left around 10:00. On my way home, Maggie called to say that Mom was being a big old GRUMP! She was all pissed off, wanting to go home and pretty confused. She seemed to think that she'd already been home and that she suddenly woke up back in Norwich. Maggie gave her a bit of a pep talk and told her she needed to just hang on and have a positive attitude.

A little later, Maggie called me back and said she'd talked to the nurse again. Apparently, the antibiotics Mom was supposed to be on for a week to deal with the UTI were only administered to her for 3 days! Susan, the nurse, said Mom was VERY confused and slightly combative. She said she wasn't sure they'd be releasing her today as a result. I mean what the holy hell!? This to me is so fucking wrong and negligent in every way.  As care givers, how do you drop a ball that badly!? I mean, I know that 3 days of antibiotics is not enough to rid Mom of her UTI! And why would you just stop them (after saying she'd be on them for a week) without doing a urinalysis to ensure all was clear?!

At this point, Maggie is going to bring Mom home regardless, I believe. She'll have a script to get her the pills she needs and hopefully she'll get back on track quickly. It may mean that Mom sleeps at Maggie's for a couple days to ensure she's okay but I guess that decision will come based on how Mom is this morning.

The lady who came in Friday to get papers signed for Mom's discharge asked that we give the facility a good review on Google. Um...you may not like what's written after this debacle. Fucking jackholes!

K - well, I'd best get a move on. Not much happening this week at school. Dinner tonight is either Cobb salad or the creamy zucchini pasta I've been threatening to make. Happy Monday! Later!
