I need to make this a quick one because I need to get out and mow the grass before the heat and humidity make it impossible. I'll try to get both the front and back yards done but who knows if that will happen. I think I can...I think I can...I think I can.
Jim should be getting out of work early today - he only had touch ups to do - so if that happens, we will have a lunch date at Shooters! Yummy!
Tomorrow the weather is supposed to be even hotter with heat indexes over 100. I got a text from Trip yesterday asking about going to Raeburn so we'll meet up there after J.J.'s baseball game. Trip and family probably won't get there until 3ish but Jim and I will head over a little earlier than that. Probably around 1:00. We'll have dinner there as well. I'll try and walk the boys early to wear them out so they won't be totally bummed to be in their cages for a few hours. We won't be late, however, so they'll be fine.
What else? Nothing, really. I guess I should get a move on and mow the yard. I should just wear my bathing suit because I end up totally dripping with sweat but no one wants to see that walking back and forth in the yard. Plus they're trying to sell that house across the way and me, in a bathing suit, mowing the lawn, isn't a big selling point!
K - I'm out...happy Friday...later!

Happy 80th!!!
Happy birthday to my sweet mom! I hope your birthday is amazing just like you! I'm sorry I can't be with you on your day but I'm so happy we got to spend time together at PIB a couple weeks ago. Enjoy your day!
So far my day has been jam-packed. I was forced to get up at 5:30 (nature called and then the boys were ready) and after coffee I decided to walk the boys. Scout went first and we went our normal 2 miles. There was one bunny incident but thankfully it happened in the driveway and I was able to wrangle him inside before all the neighborhood dogs lost their minds. Boo and I went on the longest walk we've been on yet. Probably 1 1/2 miles. He thoroughly enjoyed it but he is such a nervous walker. If I step funny and scrape my foot on the road behind him, he jumps a foot. At one point he stepped on a water meter lid thingy on the ground and it made a noise and he literally jumped two feet in the air. It was funny. Then some dude in a bright green shirt walked by and Boo acted like he wanted me to pick him up. I think the more we walk, the better he'll get. Anyway, they are both now tuckered out and enjoying the deck.
My plans today are to hang here, lay out and that's it. I was going to mow the lawn but it rained so much yesterday that it's just too wet. This means I'm going to have to wait until tomorrow which sucks because it's going to be hot, humid and miserable...ugh! Oh well...good exercise.
So another house on my street is for sale. It's a house just across the circle from me but you can't see it from the street because it sits down in a gully. The owners moved in the same year we did (our age) and have decided that the threat of the pond and creek flooding is more than they are willing to take anymore. Apparently it hasn't flooded since they've been there but I know it's been a near thing at least twice. I get it...it's like me and the trees...makes you crazy. I expect the house to go quickly. Not just because of our location but because the market is a sellers market and the house is really nice - updated, finished basement etc.
And that's about all I've got. Happy Thursday! Oh, yay! Tomorrow's Friday! K - later.

Slight Delay
I'm headed to Maggie's here in a few but I'm running a bit late because A) I'm a little slow today, B) I wanted to post before I left and C) I can't get on Spectrum to pay my bill because the website is all jacked up...annoying! I'll do it later...if I remember (Maggie, remind me!)
So yeah, I'm headed to Columbus for the day (will return tomorrow morning). Just a quickie...I sort of hope to do this every week to 10 days. Once PIB happens, I'll definitely go up for more than one day but for now that'll have to do (pig).
Boo update: The doc is quite pleased with how Boo's knee looks and feels. He said over the next 2 weeks, he can resume normal activity! YAY! Boo was so scared going to the vet yesterday (although he's a good boy there and isn't rude to the people) but he wanted me to hold him the whole time and was clinging to me like a...scared little puppy.
Diane came over to meet the boys yesterday in preparation of watching them while we're in PIB. They took to her like white on rice! I think they knew right away she's was going to be someone who would make them very happy, comfy and secure while we're gone. It was either that or the fact that she smelled of the 6 puppies she's been watching for the last few days.
And that's all I've got. I'd better finish my smoothie and get a move on before Maggie kicks my ass for being too late. Happy Tuesday...later!

Let The Planning Begin
And the countdown is on for our week at PIB. We'll be headed there on the 7th which means that I need to get menus together and cook those items I can make ahead of time. I'll be doing French dip sandwiches, pork tenderloin, chicken burgers, probably some bratts and metts, sausage patties, meatball hoagies (Eva can have spaghetti and meatballs) and so on. We'll go out at least one night but we generally like to eat at home. It's cheaper but more importantly, better! You can only eat burgers and perch so many times.
The weekend: It was a good one...relaxing. Our anniversary was good...went to Shooters and then played cards with Doug and Lauren. Jim tied one on Saturday night and had a bit of a hangover Sunday but that's okay...he had fun.
Today Diane will be coming over to meet the pups and get the rundown about them. She's a pro when it comes to caring for my babies so I have no worries. Prior to her coming over, Boo has his follow up appointment for his sweet little knee. I hope they'll tell me all is looking and feeling well. He hasn't limped but one time since I've been back from PIB and that was over a week ago. He seems fine but you never know. I'm guessing they'll still want him to take it a bit easy for another couple weeks. The boys been really good about not playing too hard when I monitor them and I've set up little obstacles to stop the hard core things they do (blocking the steps from the deck so Boo can't take flight into the yard; blocking the stairs to the 2nd floor)...we'll see.
I've also been sleep/food training the boys. I'm trying to get them to sleep later. The past several weeks/months they've been whining to get up around 5:30 or 6:00 and that just isn't working for me. Part of the problem is I've been a sucker and feeding them dinner at 4:15, so of course by 5:30 AM they're starving. Yesterday, however, I managed to make them wait until 5 PM to eat dinner and today they had no problem waiting until 6:30 to get up. Now, my goal is 7:00 AM but I hardly ever sleep that late so it may be tough. We'll see.
Anyway - I'd like to take Diane for lunch as well...hopefully she'll be up for it. If not, Jim's most likely going to be done early today so he and I can go. Tomorrow I plan to go to Maggie's for a little fun in the sun at the pool. I'll come home Wednesday; a short but sweet jaunt.
Okay well, I need to get a move on - shower and start my lists. Happy Monday. Later!

Wiped Out
It's definitely cooler out there but sticky as hell! I just returned from taking the boys on a walk (separately - Scout 2 miles and Boo, not quite a mile...still recovering though not limping...I just don't want him to overdo it) and they are exhausted (Just how I like them!). Of course I'm a dripping mess but what're you going to do?
Speaking of the boys (I talk about them way too much but I can't help it), I bought a second large cage for them and will switch out the upstairs kennels, which they sleep in when it comes today. I'm excited for them to have more room to stretch out at night and I think it will make them, maybe, please, sleep a little later! We'll see. Anyway - it isn't that their smaller cages are too small but I just think they'll like the room. The one thing about these, however, is that I won't be able to have them next to each other in the bedroom and I'm not sure how they'll like that. They will be able to see each other though so hopefully that will be enough. They really do rely on each other and panic a bit when they don't know where the other is. Yesterday Scout was wandering around the house and went upstairs when Boo came in from the backyard. I could tell by the way Boo was running from room to room, looking around that he was searching for his brother and when he couldn't find him at first, he started a little panicked whine. It was cute.
Anyway - now that my breakfast and exercise is done for the morning, and once I finish here, I'll make a list for the store, figure out a menus for the week and head down to Walmart. Now, normally I wouldn't go to Walmart but they sell fabric and I'm starting a new quilt. It will be another jeans quilt and I need an "accent" color. After I get home, I'll cut that and then maybe even start sewing today. Who knows. I need to lay it all out first which will be a task since these boys don't allow me to have room to work like Sami did. I'll figure it out.
Dinner last night was good. Went to Pappadeaux's in Springdale...never been before. Enjoyed it thoroughly although the service was a little slow. Nice to try something new and different. The fish was tasty and the drink delicious.
Okay - TGIF! Jim's excited for the weekend, I know - though he may have to go in but we'll see. He's been getting up nearly every day around 4:30 and is tired!
K - I'm out...happy Friday! Later!

The Chicken Lost Its Head
So Boo has this favorite toy - his chicken (it's really a duck but there's another duck - a mallard - that we call a "duck" so I call Boo's fave toy a chicken so there's no confusion). It's made of two squeaky parts - it's head and then it's abdomen with a piece of fabric covering the whole thing. No fluff or stuffing...just squeaky toy. (I even bought a second one when it started falling apart so that he'd
have a replacement but he's just ignored that chicken...Scout likes that
one though.) Anyway - this thing has been well loved. It's feet are gone, it has no face, I've had to sew it three times but this morning was finally the end...for it's head. Boo was being very quiet so I went to investigate and I found him chewing on the removed squeaky head. Poor chicken. Oh well, I'm sure Boo will still carry it around like he loves to do. He wakes up nearly every morning, pees, poops, eats and then searches out his chicken and carries it around from room to room.
Anyway - today it a rainy day. I may just have to hunker down and watch some Scandal (I'm midway through season 2). Jim and I will be going out to dinner tonight with Doug and Lauren but other than that...no plans.
No much else going on. I'm starting to think about PIB and our week in a couple weeks. I need to plan meals and get things together. I'll start making lists soon. I like to get food pre-made (burgers, marinated meat etc) so that I can just haul that up rather than all the ingredients - saves room.
And that's all I've got. Time to get a move on. Later!

Screaming Puppies, Howling Dogs
So I took the dogs on a walk this morning. I take them separately because they walk so much better alone. First I took Boo (just a short one since he's still healing, although he hasn't limped but once since I've returned from PIB...knock on wood) while Scout was in his cage with a nice bone filled with peanut butter. I did the old switcheroo and took Scout on a two miler. He was so funny. He always looks like he's been on a marathon within a block of leaving the house - tongue flopping all over the place and scraggly. It doesn't help his look when he tromps through puddles (to cool down). Today, he found a nice rain-soaked trench and proceeded to lie down, roll over and soak himself. I'm sure it felt sublime to him but he looked like a homeless dog that I picked up off the streets.
Anyway - we were almost home and I see up ahead of us, a bunny, sitting right in our path...and he isn't moving and I know what's coming. As we get within about 6 feet of him, the bunny finally gets terrified enough to hop away which, of course, sends Scout into one of his excited, screaming fits. Seriously, you've never heard anything like it. It sounds like he's being tortured and killed. When I finally get him to shut the hell up, I realize that ALL the dogs in the neighborhood are howling. I mean, it sounded like doggy Armageddon. All I could do was laugh and silently apologize to my neighbors.
So Jim had his appointment yesterday and all went well. He's going to stay on the same dosage (lowest, one day on, one day off) until his next appointment on August 14th (assuming everything continues to go well). He will have a scan prior to his next appointment to see how things are going. Fingers crossed!
So today? Not sure what I have in the works. Jim's been having to go in to do some touch up stuff after his regular shift so I haven't been able to cook these past couple days. Not sure if this will happen again today or not. I'll do some cleaning and then I might just start cutting up some fabric for a new quilt. It's been a while since I've made one. I need to make another jeans quilt because I have a stack I need to get rid of. I'll look for a pattern that is easy but pretty and hopefully get that under way.
And that's all I've got. Guess I'll do some cleaning...make myself useful. Happy Wednesday. Later!

Low Key Tuesday
It's just before 9:00 am and I've had coffee, caught up on the news/shit storm that is this country as a result of this horrific administration, taken an 8.26 mile bike ride around the neighborhood, eaten breakfast and now here we are. My plans today are to do some laundry, clean, possibly get a pedicure and then head to Jim's doc appointment at 2:00. Pretty low key.
This weather is for the birds! Actually, I wonder what the birds think of this weather. I wonder if they really like if or do they get hot and miserable and just don't want to fly anywhere? Well, regardless, it's nasty. When I started out on my bike ride, I wasn't sure I would make it the whole way because it's so oppressive but once I got going, the breeze kept me relatively cool. Of course the minute I stepped off my bike I was a dripping mess.
So I kept the pups out of their cages for about 1/2 the night last night. They were good...Scout sleeps in bed and Boo likes to be under the bed. Crazies. Scout likes to be right up next to me so of course I sweat my ass off but he's so sweet, I don't have the heart to push him away. I ended up putting them in their cages around 1:00 or so because Jim got up to pee and so they got up and thought, "Hey! Lets play!" Uh, nope!
Mattress shopping went fine yesterday. Of course the beds I liked were some of the most expensive. I liked the Tempurpedic beds the most, which run for $3,000+. Ugh. I'll do some comparison shopping and figure things out. I'm not in some big hurry...just need a new mattress.
And that's about all I've got. Time to fold some laundry and do some vacuuming. Later! Happy Tuesday!

Flabbergasted
First of all, I'm back! Sorry for the lack of posting this past week but I don't take a computer to PIB and it's too much a pain in the ass to post otherwise. I should be pretty consistent in the next week so quit your bitching!
Second - I was watching the Today show yesterday and they had a story about a charity basketball game between Jimmy Kimmel and Ted Cruz. During the story, they revealed Ted Cruz's age and I was flabbergasted! Why? Because he and I are the same age! How can that be?! Not to say that I'm some young-looking chicken but he looks 57, not 47! Ugh! So depressing. Well, I guess it's more depressing for old dumb ass Ted but still...to think that jackass loser is in the same age bracket as me!
So PIB was fun. A lot of just hanging out, some pool time as well. We went up in the monument which was lovely but didn't stay long. Dinner at the Boardwalk on our last night but other than that we cooked at home. Can't wait to go back in July!
Jim's doing well. This regiment (knock on wood) seems to be working well. He usually gets a low grade fever the day after being on meds but it's not debilitating. We go to the docs tomorrow. I'm hoping they don't tell us to change two days on, one day off but we'll see. I'll argue against it.
Boo Update: He's doing really well. Too well for his own good, really. He has only limped one time since I've been back so that's good. I'm still having him take it easy (trying) but it's hard. He feels fine and wants to run and play. I did close the gate at the top of the stairs to the deck. He can get through the slats to the stairs but with it closed, he can't leap into the air and fly to the ground, risking injury. I'm not sure how exactly he hurt himself but this jumping the stairs from the deck is a good possibility. Little turkey!
Today Jim and I are going mattress shopping. I've just had it with the one we have. It's very saggy, especially on Jim's side and my back is starting to give me fits. We'll try Sleep Outfitters and the Original Mattress Factory and then there's one other in the area we're headed. From there, lunch. Jim's on second shift today if you were wondering. He should be back to regular tomorrow.
And that's all I've got. I think I'll go walk Scout...before it gets too crazy hot. Although it's disgustingly steamy already.
Happy Monday! Later!

What Is Going ON!?!?
Watching the news this morning and seeing that Anthony Bourdain has died of suicide...it's just heartbreaking! First Kate Spade and then him with suicide on the rise...UGH! I don't want to say the typical mantra about people struggling: Get help, there's another way and another answer because obviously it isn't that simple. I mean, a person who leaves behind an 11 or 13 year old is obviously not in their right mind and thinking logically. They most assuredly don't believe there's a way out of such a vast abyss. Who in their right mind would do such a thing to themselves if they're able to think about those left behind? I don't believe a person suffering in such a way makes the "choice" to commit suicide...they truly feel there isn't a choice and this is the only way out. So sad.
So Boo...ugh! The worst part of Boo fracturing his knee is that he doesn't really realize he's hurt. Of course he's been "resting" since coming home yesterday (as best I can make him rest) and so he's not limping which means he's not hurting and he feels like he should be running around chasing and getting chased by his brother. It's frustrating for me, for him, for Scout. And now that all the sedation meds have worn off, he's feeling quite frisky. I've had them out most of the morning so far but just had to put Boo in the cage because he was starting to get all hopped up with playfulness. Can't have that. I know that this is for the best and doing this now will help him heal back to his normal self but it SUCKS!
One thing I've found so far in all of this is that Scout is the better listener. He comes when called better as well. When Boo is getting all crazy and I need them to stop, I call Scout to me and he'll come, nearly right away. And usually he'll stick with me if I tell him to. Can't wait for the next two weeks to go by quickly!
So it's Friday which means the weekend. Jim's going to work tomorrow so it will be a pretty low key couple of days. This evening Lauren and I are going to March 1st - a local small brewery - to meet up with Doug after he gets off work. I don't expect to be out long and I want to come home to make dinner...we'll see how that goes. Jim will need to get to bed early so I certainly don't want it to be a late night. Other than that, I'll just be getting ready for PIB on Monday. Still haven't made all my lists.
And that's all I've got. Time to walk Scout and get him a little worn out. Happy weekend! Later!

Boo's Gimpy Leg
In reality, I don't know if it's Boo's leg or foot that's bothering him...he just occasionally won't use his back, left leg (usually after he gets up from sleeping). Anyway, I took him to the vet yesterday where the doc manipulated all four of his legs and feet to see how his range of motion was. He never cried or whined while she did this and though he didn't exactly enjoy it, he let her do it without squirming or trying to get away. There wasn't anything she could feel and so I'll take him back today at 9:00 to have an X-ray. He's on a sedative and anti-inflammatory. Hopefully he's doped up enough to allow the X-ray. Otherwise, I'll have to make the decision to have them put him out or not to get the scan. The issue is that it's the same leg that bothered him in March and so they want to make sure it's not a juvenile bone disease. Poor boy.
Of course Scout does not like that Boo is dopey and not real hip to play. He keeps going up to him to sniff and then gets on the floor and rolls over and barks...trying to entice Boo to "attack". He's not getting any reaction, however. Hopefully when we get back from the vet, the meds will wear off quickly.
So I can't remember how long it's been since I've been a smoker (10 years at least though) but I still have dreams that I pick it up again. Last night I had that dream. It's always the same too...I start by "bumming" smokes off others and justify it saying, "I'm not a smoker because I haven't bought any packs myself." And then it gets to the point where I have to buy a pack and I think, "Great! Now I have to quit again!" I'm always happy when I wake up and realize it's a dream! So glad I quit!
Jim's back with his original "boss" at work. Since going back in...April (?), he's been with a different crew but with the latest need for taking off here and there due to meds, they switched him back. No big deal. He's now in Covington, at headquarters staining doors. And he's working with a guy he really likes so that's good. He will take his meds today and the be off again tomorrow. Fingers crossed this works! Oh, and he'll work Saturday too...which is good because he had to go home early Monday so maybe he'll even get a couple hours overtime!
Other than the vet today, I'll also do a grocery shop and then because it's beautiful again today, I just may lay out.
And that's all I've got. I hope to get back on the bike tomorrow! I haven't been able to with everything going on lately but tomorrow should be a nothing day! Happy Thursday! This time next week, it'll be our last day at PIB! Later!

Reprimanded!
I just got a bit of a reprimand from my mom so I guess I'd better post! Sorry about my neglect. You see, first it was the weekend and then I went to Columbus on Monday and after getting home yesterday and playing with the dogs I had to go to the doc with Jimmy. So here we are...hopefully back to a routine...until the weekend again.
So Jim's appointment and health status: He's been struggling a bit. First he started a bit of a fever last week (99.something) but managed to stave it off and get through the weekend without any issues (and not on his meds). He started back up with meds on Monday and things were okay but by Tuesday he had a fever again and he didn't sleep well the night before. So...the new plan: He will now take meds every other day, starting tomorrow. He will switch how he takes his meds as well (the trouble maker pill will be switched to evenings). He will also take a regiment of ibuprofen to help with sleep and joint pain (2 PMs in the evening along with 2 regular) and then 12 hours later, 4 regulars). Hopefully this will work out. We'll call in next Tuesday to let Jill know how things are going and he'll go back in two weeks. He slept like a rock last night and felt good this morning...minus the dog bite he got.
Yeah, so Jim got up this morning and did his normal routine...let the dogs out, fed the dogs and with that, a fight happened. In breaking it up, he got bit and has a massive bruise and bite mark in the crook of his arm. I'll be working on a new routine with feeding so this doesn't happen again. It doesn't happen for me but Jim doesn't have as easy of a time feeding them as I do. And it happens AFTER they've finished eating so it's not a battle for food. Stupid puppies!
And Boo has some sort of issue with his back paw, which has nothing to do with the fight. He was favoring his right back paw when I got home yesterday and I thought it was his toenails. So last night, Jim and I managed to cut them but he's still limping this morning and not walking on it. I felt it and it doesn't give him pain with I squeeze, however, just behind his pad, I could feel a little nodule that the other paw doesn't have. SO!!!! I'll call the vet at 8:00...see what they say. UGH!
Today's plans: I will probably have to take the boy to the vet. I'll vacuum, mow the lawn and then hopefully enjoy a little sunshine. I need to start my list for going to PIB next week. Oh, and Mom's coming now too! Woot! Maggie and I were sitting around talking about going and how we wished Mom could come and Maggie said, "Lets call and just SEE if she'd want to come...last minute." So she sent a text and about 5 minutes later, mom said she was a go! Woot! She'll come up here Sunday, we'll head to Columbus Monday morning and then carpool with Maggie and Eva. We'll stay until Friday and Mom will head back to TN on Saturday! Can't wait!
And that's all I've got. It's about time for me to call the vet. Here's hoping they can fit us in and that it's nothing. My luck...it'll be something. UGH! K - I'm out. Later...happy Wednesday. It's Wednesday, right?

Sort Of Proud
So over the past week, I've been trying to start a new norm with my eating, exercise and drinking habits and I have to say I'm quite proud of my how well I've done. In terms of exercise, I'm trying to do something every day. That could be a bike ride, yoga with an added core workout, cutting the grass etc. I'm also trying to take the boys for a walk every day (building up to longer walks as they get used to the wildlife that crosses their paths). As for my eating habits, instead of my usual breakfast, I've cut down to just a smoothie in the morning (1 c. of spinach, 1 banana, almond milk and protein peanut butter powder). I'll have a low carb lunch and for dinner (during the week) I'm trying to cut out the meat. (I made a delicious black bean burger earlier in the week and a delicious eggplant gratin last night.) Now drinking...that's the toughest. A) No mimosas outside of the weekend B) Only red wine during the week and only max, two glasses. After that, water! Certainly drinking has been the toughest but I'm determined. And I have to say, it hasn't been that hard. I do like to exercise and when it's over, I feel so good. When I don't drink (as much), I sleep much better and I'm also enjoying the search for veggie recipes. Hopefully I'll continue on this path.
That being said, I don't expect when I'm with Maggie (Monday) that I'll stick to my usual routine. But that's okay...we'll swim off the calories! Oh, and then I got a text from Becky last night and found out that instead of them going to PIB during their week in June, they're going to San Fransisco which means, the cottage is empty! So, Maggie, Eva and I are headed up from Monday - Friday! This will be June 11th-15th. I can't wait. Jim's totally cool with it and as long as he stays "healthy" we're good to go.
Now, speaking of Jim, he's taking a day off from his meds. See, yesterday, he had a slight fever (99.4) after coming home from work. He didn't have a fever at bed, nor did he have one this morning. However, he did feel a bit "tingly" according to him. He said he felt like things were "starting". For instance, with these meds, he gets a weird dry skin thing on his forehead and he said it was starting. I think nipping this in the bud prior to any real fever setting in is a good idea. Jim's doing a good job of listening to his body and not being overly sensitive so I think this is the route to go. I'm keeping track of everything so we can report to the doc too (we meet with him again on Tuesday). If all is well tomorrow (no fevers today), then Jim will take the meds again tomorrow. Fingers crossed.
So today will be a chill day. Not like my days are anything else but the weather is transitioning so it's rainy. I've done my morning routine already (with the exception of walking the pups) and I'll probably read for a bit, do a bit of laundry and then take a bath. Since it's Friday, I'm doing a pulled pork in the Instant Pot (a recipe Maggie did a couple months ago that was easy and delicious) and I can't wait for Jim to come home so he can enjoy a lazy weekend with me. We're taking care of the dogs across the street but that's not a big deal. Well, correction, 2 dogs, a cat, a fish and a bearded dragon. Knock on wood!
K - well, time to...sit around and do nothing. Happy Friday! Later!
