Early Start Late Post

Boo woke me up early today (5:30) nuzzling my hand and since I was in the middle of a hot flash I figured I'd get up. So, after feeding the boys (well, just Boo because Scout is a stinker) and having my coffee while watching the news, I did a bit of stretchy yoga. It was much needed because I was having a lot of aches and pains this morning. Mainly in my knees but yesterday's yoga had me cramping up in the hips so deep stretches were needed. After that, I took the boys for a walk and then decided to capitalize on the weather and take a bike ride. I went a bit further than usual and was so happy I did. I needed some mood restoration. (More on that in a minute.) All of that meant it was after 9:00 before I was able to settle down outside on my deck with a second cup of joe to blog. Better late than never though, right?

So my mood. It started with the visitation yesterday for my student. I went right when it started (at 4:00) and it was already packed. I figured it would be. I went in, signed the picture frame they were asking guests to sign and then got in line to give my condolences to the family. Unfortunately, the parents were set up right in front of the casket which, dammit, was open. I know that this is something a lot of people do and maybe it's beneficial for some to have a chance to say goodbye and get some closure but I just think it should be set up in a place where people can view based on their own decision. I don't want to have to see it. In my opinion, it isn't beneficial because the person never looks the same. And Emma did not look good so it was extra hard. You could see on her arms where there were puncture marks from her hospitalization (IVs etc.) and it was just hard. (BTW - the only open casket I've ever seen where the person actually looked good was my great grandmother who was 101 when she died and in death she looked so peaceful and her skin was so smooth. A 17-year-old doesn't look peaceful.)

Anyway - after that, I came home and got dinner ready and then my neighbor sent a text to see if I wanted to have a glass of wine. (After the visitation, I needed it). We were chatting and she mentioned her vacation which starts this Saturday. Now, let me backtrack and say that originally, I was going to be in PIB when she was in Florida so she had arranged for D&L's daughter to watch her dog. There were going to be some times when Alex (the daughter) was going to be out of town but Lauren had assured her that they'd figure it out between them (and Jim) and all would be good. Then when PIB fell through because the house isn't ready, I told Cari that I'd probably be around and could help out with Reggie but I might have to leave at a moment's notice if I was needed to help with the furniture move in.

So back to last night. We're sitting and my neighbor says something like, "So are you all good with Reggie when we leave Saturday?" And I'm all, "Uh, what? You mean when Alex can't take care of him?" Well, it turns out that she nixed them from helping out at all because they were being wishy washy and now the majority of Reggie's care will be me...and Jim. (Although her in-laws who live just up the street are coming back the following Thursday and will be able to take over.) Not that it's a problem, really. Reggie is easy and Jim helps but I wasn't made aware that it was all on me. I'm sure I was extra sensitive too with the visitation but still. Ugh! And then I feel like an asshole because I'm obviously taken aback by this sudden responsibility forced upon me. It was just more than I had signed up for, you know?

In the end, all is fine and it will be no big deal to watch Reggie. He's such a good boy and cuddly and Jim loves him and will help too.

BTW - I found a dress for the visitation yesterday (at Kohls the 3rd place I ventured), and it's so cute. I ended up getting a pink and blue one. So comfy and perfect for summer and something I'll definitely wear to school as well. I tried to find something at Target (fail) and Old Navy (fail). Old Navy was a shit show. I walked in and then right back out thinking that the people who work there should be ashamed at the state of their store. I almost want to email someone about it but then I'm sure they're struggling with keeping employees staffed and maybe they don't have the manpower to keep everything in order. On the other hand way before there was a shortage of workers Old Navy has been renowned for being a shit show.

Anyway, I've rambled on long enough and I still need to finish getting my menu in order for the week. I might mow the front yard too, however, it might still be too wet. We'll see.

Happy Wednesday! Later
