Another Hurdle

Jim went down to the hospital yesterday to get his drain removed...and then didn't. His appointment was with radiology and they did a CT and found that he might have a hole in his bowel. Or as the radiologist so confusingly said to Jim, "It looks like your abscess is communicating with the bowel." What!? Just fucking speak English. So yeah, that means they couldn't take the drain out even though there's no fluid being drained and he has to go back in on Monday to do another CT. They said the possible hole could possibly heal itself but it's just so annoying. I'm guessing that Jim will probably talk to the surgeon today once she sees these results and hopefully he'll find out exactly what we should expect. I mean, is this ever going to end!?

School is annoying me. Well, actually not my school but rather the career center. See, I have a student who is 1/2 time at the HS and 1/2 at the career center. This is a student who is medically fragile (had a heart transplant several years ago and is constantly getting sick with pneumonia or some of scary shit that lands her in the hospital). She's a junior this year and in previous years, she's been on an abbreviated schedule because of fatigue. Well, this year, she and her mother decided that she would split her day between the two schools which meant she would have to be full-time. Needless to say, she's really been struggling. At the same time, her IEP and 3-year reevaluation is coming up in October. We have it scheduled for the 12th, I think. So of course, I invited the appropriate team members (district rep, parent, gen ed teacher, which would come from the high school since she only takes her lab at the career center, me and the school psyche) as well as the special ed teacher she deals with at the career center. Then last week I get a call from the CC sped teacher who is concerned about the students risk at being in her program. I told the teacher, essentially, call the parent...voice your concerns with her. See what she says. Who would fault you for being concerned? I mean, the parent is cool and realistic but she wants her daughter to do what she wants to do and try and live as normal a life as possible.

All of a sudden, I start getting notifications in email that about 10 other people from the CC are being invited to the meeting. I mean, WTF!? This is an IEP meeting! If you need to have a separate meeting to discuss her placement in your school, then have that meeting separately. We have an hour reserved for the IEP and evaluation. I'm not spending another hour discussing shit that you all need to have with the parent. Set your own meeting up for that. I will be calling the sped teacher at the CC today to discuss this. So annoying!

Okay well, time to get a move on. It's still raining here but should wrap up around lunch time. So excited that tomorrow is Friday! This week sort of flew by. Okay well, I'm out. Not sure what's for dinner tonight. Maybe chicken something. K - happy Thursday. Later!
