We knew it was going to be a tough series and last night's Reds game result showed us that. But, it isn't over yet and we have tonight to win which we will and then we'll go on to win on Thursday and then we're Philly bound! I'm wearing my bright red dress today in support and I feel good that we can pull this off. GO REDS!!!
Last night was the special board meeting at school which revealed the catastrophic shit that will hit the fan if our levy doesn't pass. We'll need to cut $9 million from our budget which, among other things, means about 125 positions will be eliminated. Additionally, they'll cut busing for 9-12, they'll go to 1/2 day kindergarten, pay to play, reduction in "safety", music, specials, special ed, mental health, counseling, ESL, AP classes, languages, special education and so much more. The one thing I didn't hear them talk about was cutting the needless admin positions we have. There's a meeting with our union president after school and this will be the first questions I ask because they better cut unnecessary admins before they even think about teachers. I mean, one of our VPs has a new title and they're "figuring out" what her job is this year. WTF!? And the needless spending that goes on in our district? That's another questions I'll have. It's scary and I don't see this thing passing what with the economic climate we're in right now. We're fucked.Oh, and if it does pass? They said it will allow us to "maintain". And they specifically mentioned being able to maintain class size. We're 30+ in most of our high school classes as it is. How are we going to maintain when the classes coming up are the biggest they've ever been and they wouldn't plan on hiring new positions even with luck going our way? Even if this levy does pass, they still need to make cuts to free up money to get more teachers. And don't get me started about the new high school they're in the midst of building. It's going to be lovely and innovative and we're not going to be able to maintain it because we already don't have the maintenance staff for the building we're in. It's a total cluster fuck and I have nowhere to go and can't do a thing about it. It's so depressing.
In other news, Nicole, my Pilates teacher today tried to kill me. While I was doing it I didn't think it was that bad but she worked my inner thighs so much that I can barely walk. Ugh!
Yesterday was fun in ELA class. I had the kids take their "Sorting Hat Quiz" to see which Hogwarts house they'd be in. Crazy enough, the largest number of students ended up in Slytherin. If you don't know anything about Harry Potter, first, shame on you and also, there isn't a bad wizard out there who didn't come from Slytherin. Figures so many of my kids ended up there. I was actually surprised at some of them. But hey, the sorting hat knows!
Dinner tonight: I pulled a couple stuffed peppers and will make a salad to go with.
And that's all I've got. My head is already pounding as per usual. Guess I should get to school. Happy Wednesday. Later
