My IEP yesterday was fine...no big deal (more on that in a minute). It was my last IEP of the year and I'm nearly done with all my paperwork. I just have to finish up my 2 seniors final papers and then get my progress reports done. I assigned the last goal work yesterday in ELA and documented all that so I just need to enter the data into the documents. Once next week is done I'll be able to add all the SDI minutes to students progress and bing bang boom...DONE! Woot! So excited!
Nothing major to talk about in regard to yesterday's IEP except one small thing. As a reminder, this is a 9th grader who is in a mix of MD and resource classes. His grandmother has custody but the mother is involved. She gave me a hard way to go at the start of the year. Since then I haven't heard from her. She did come to the meeting yesterday and I think she was ready to spar. As the meeting started, I asked about the draft I sent and if there were any questions. Mom immediately asked about section 8 which covers transportation (if a sped student needs special transport, you check "yes" on one part). I had all the boxes checked "no" and Mom was concerned about this. The problem was, I didn't realize he'd had special transport this year. I think she thought I was trying to pull a fast one. I immediately said, "Oops, that's my bad. I didn't realize that was his form of transport." And I changed it to "yes". From there, mom seemed to relax seeing that I wasn't trying to trick her.
Fast forward to 3:00 when I get home and see I have an email from one of the MD teachers who have kid from above in her classes. She said, "Hey, just wondering how {name} IEP went. Did transporation come up? I really think he should be on a regular bus but at last year's meeting, grandma was in near tears about it so we kept him on the special bus." I read this and said aloud Um, maybe the time to bring that issue up is BEFORE I had the meeting rather than after! I mean, A) they knew I was having the meeting and that never came up and B) why would I change such a thing without having a discussion first. So stupid...but no biggie.
Dinner tonight: I've pulled a lasagna rollup meal from the freezer and we'll have that with a salad.
Plans for the weekend: Nothing really. I'll probably go see Dad tomorrow - early, before noon. From there nada. I have yard work that needs to be done. After all the rain we've had the grass is THICK! It's going to be a tough mow. I have some honeysuckle beyond the back fence I want to cut down too. That will be a task. Jim will certainly have to help with that. Beyond that, it should be a chill weekend.
It's a video day at school. I'm done teaching in ELA. We're watching Read Window for the next several days and then we'll review. I have on section left for history which we'll go over Monday and then complete the review for exam. I'm almost there! I think I can muddle through the next couple weeks.
Okay - happy Friday! Happy weekend! Happy Mother's Day Sunday to all you mothers (not muthas). Later!
