Issues With Getting Older

I've noticed - and maybe it's the fact that it's winter - that my skin is so much drier than it used to be. But I don't think it's the weather. I think it's age. I think that as I've turned the corner into my 50s, my hormone levels have gotten all effed up and my skin is different. I don't get as many blemishes as I used to either, although I still get them which is annoying because my skin has always been an asshole. My hair is changing too.  First of all - though typically oily - it definitely doesn't do as well with constant washing. Now, don't get me wrong, I wash my hair every day during the week but if it's the weekend, sometimes, I don't wash it on Sunday. You know, just to give it a break. Second, it's not as thick as it used to be. It's still thicker than I'd prefer but I lose a TON of hair every time I wash my hair and it's texture has definitely changed. Not really complaining there by the way. And lastly, my fingernails! Holy shit do they grow fast. I swear I have to cut them once a week. It's ridiculous. I gouge Jim all the time, which is funny but he doesn't think so.

So I forgot to take a magnesium pill on Monday night. I slept well but did wake up several times during the night. Last night I remembered and man oh man I slept like a baby log! I did wake up once but it was because Boo jumped up in bed around 4:00 to stare at me and see if I was awake. I played dead and he went away and I thought Well, now I'm going to be up but nope, I fell right back to sleep and even into a pretty vivid dream (that I won't bore you with).

Dinner last night as yummy (vegan chickpea white chili). Tonight I'll either make crab cakes or teriyaki turkey rice bowls. Depends on how I feel when I get home and how much time I have. Both easy meals but the crab cakes only need to be popped in the oven. We'll see.

Jimmy didn't work after work again yesterday. I guess when he showed up, there were electricians there working and in his way. Plus they weren't wearing masks so he hightailed it out of there and will try again today.

School today will be a nice and easy day: Mostly independent work for all my classes except for history. That will give me time to finish one IEP for next week and get the other mostly done at least.

I started a new book (audio...I listen while walking the dogs and going back and forth to school) The Glass Hotel. It's been one of those books that everybody has recommended this year. I'm in the beginning of it but I'm still not sure, ultimately what it's about. (Sometimes I don't like to read the book jacket just to have fresh eyes - ears in this case - so as not to have expectations.) The writing is good though, I'm into it...just haven't figured it out yet.

And that's all I've got. Time to finish getting ready and head out. Happy Wednesday - ooh, hump day! Stay healthy and masked and distant. Later!
