Crazy Rain

Holy merde that was some crazy rain last night. We also had some pretty loud thunder but thankfully nothing severe. Of course around 2:00, the rain was coming down in sheets and ended up blowing into the bedroom's open windows. Poor Scoutie, who was sleeping on a nearby pillow got a bit doused. And then, of course, I was awake and couldn't get back to sleep. The last time I looked at the clock was 3:18 which meant I only had a little over an hour left. I did manage to snooze for a bit and was awoken by the alarm. Jim was also tossing and turning. Ugh! Thankfully today should be a pretty easy day and I can muddle through it without a full night's sleep. 

All's well in my mouth. I had my 6-month cleaning yesterday and as per usual, my gums look good and no cavities. However, the hygienist started lecturing me about an old filling I've got that's showing cracks. It was like she was trying to talk me into getting a crown. In fact, she said it might behoove me to be pro-active. I haven't had any issues with this tooth and I'm fully aware of the warnings my dentist has given me about it (if there's any discomfort call immediately and no hard chews on that side). What's her deal? And then, she spent a LOT of time over there which makes me suspicious. If this tooth starts giving me fits, I'm blaming her. Fingers crossed I won't have to be back there until my next appointment November 2nd. 

Dinner tonight: Jim and I are going out. I'm craving a little Rusty Bucket taco salad and it being the Tuesday special, why not? So excited.

I finished an audiobook - The German Wife by Kelly Rimmer - a recommendation from Lisa. It was good. I really liked the woman who read it. Here's the synopsis from Google: The German Wife is a historical fiction novel that follows Sofie, a German woman whose husband becomes a rocket scientist for the Nazi regime, and her family's subsequent move to Alabama in the 1950s as part of Operation Paperclip. The story, told in dual timelines, explores the moral compromises made during the rise of Nazism in 1930s Berlin and the prejudice and conflict Sofie faces in post-war America, where her past is revealed and tested by her new community. 

After I finished the above book, I downloaded Twice by Mitch Albom (he wrote Tuesdays with Morrie and other novels). This one is about a guy, Alfie, who can relive any moment in his life but with limitations. He has to live with the second experience which might not be better and he cannot change death. So far I'm really liking it; I love the premise. He always reads his own books and does a pretty good job.
