The only snafu was when I went to drive off the ferry onto the island and my car wouldn't start. Whoopsie. Obviously the 18 minute ride shouldn't have been enough time for my battery to die (my car was off by I was listening to my radio) which tells me it's about time to get a new battery. Thankfully when this happened, all the other cars had driven off and I only had Maggie behind me. I mouthed what was happening to one of the workers and he immediately got a jumper and within 1 minute my car was started and I was driving off. Of course I was worried the rest of the weekend that my car wouldn't start but there were no issues there Needless to say, I did NOT leave my car radio on when leaving the island.
So what exactly did we do: Saturday we all got there at 9:30 (myself and the Egberts) and after unpacking we headed to lunch at Reel Bar. Bonus! They had perch tacos! Afterwards we went home and pretty much just hung out. We had spaghetti for dinner and just enjoyed where we were. Sunday Anne arrived, I believe on the 8:30 ferry. Allen made it on the 10:30.Oh, shit! Totally forgot about the plumbing snafu. Guess we had 2 snafus. It was so weird. Maggie had taken a shower and then Charlie was in the middle of his when his shower stopped draining and then in fact water started coming up out of the drain and then the toilet in the downstairs bedroom started flooding. It was crazy. We scrambled around trying to find out what to do and who to call and what the hell was I going to do if I couldn't take a shower. In the end, the clog or whatever it was remedied itself and suddenly things started flowing...in the right direction. Crisis averted. Phew!
Anyway, Sunday we went to lunch at PIB brewery. It was nuts on the island because they had an abundance of people there with only limited restaurants open and people were running out of food left and right. I think there were 2 servers at the brewery and I felt so bad for them. We made sure to let them know that they didn't need to stress about our table...we were very patient. After lunch we headed home. Allen met up with a friend from college that was on the island with his family. They ended up coming over after we'd eaten dinner and having some cocktails and s'mores.
Monday Allen caught the 8:30 ferry and the rest of us bee bopped around the island. Crews Nest was "open" for limited drinks and then they had a grill out on the front patio with hot dogs and hamburgers. We headed home and waited for the eclipse. Directly after, Anne, Charlie and the girls made a beeline for the ferry. Eva had to get home for school on Tuesday. This left Maggie and I at the house on our own which was nice. We chit chatted, had leftovers and then went to bed.
Of course neither one of us slept that night which sucked. I was feeling sort of terrible. Maggie was stressed and it didn't help that when we got to the ferry the line of cars wrapped around the furthest building at the dock. Ugh. I thought for sure we'd be there for a couple hours (we'd hoped to catch the 8:00). However, they ended up running the Maryann (their large ferry which holds up to 28 cars) and we were on the ferry by 8:30.
I was home by 12:30 and after unpacking, eating lunch, loving on the dogs, walking them, I took a nap and started to feel a bit better. I did not cook last night (more leftovers) and I was in bed sinking into slumber by 7:30. I feel 100% better and am ready to tackle these 3 days at work.
I have no idea what I'm cooking tonight but I'm thinking mahi mahi.
And that's all I've got. I have a lot of grading to do so I'd best get a move on. Happy Wednesday! Later!
