Splitting Woes

Lot splitting that is. Yesterday when I got home and had walked the dog, I immediately went out to tackle some log splitting. As I mentioned yesterday, due to rain, I was unable to do anything on Tuesday so I wanted to get double the amount of splitting in to make up for it. My initial plan was to tackle the largest most behemoth piece...the base of one of the trees. It was the most awkward one with the largest diameter. I moved the splitter to the log and was able to maneuver it into position and cut it in half. After that I had to move the splitter to another part of the yard that wasn't so muddy. I then struggled and fought to roll the pieces to the splitter. It was like trying to wrestle Godzilla. Impossible. I ended up giving up on one half of the log but managed to split up the other. I'll tackle it again when I'm not so exhausted.

Then, when I went to start the splitter after a little break, I forget to reset the kill switch to "on" and jacked up my left shoulder trying to start the motor. Ugh! A little yoga this morning has helped a bit...hopefully it will reset itself.

Then!!! After I had split for about an hour and a half I noticed there was a fluid on the machine that hadn't been there before. I showed Jim and it seems it's hydraulic fluid that's leaking. Not good. Jim called our tree guy (it's his splitter) to see if he can fix it. I have a feeling it won't be a quick fix and we're going to have to rent a splitter now. Ugh! That's Jim's job today - to figure all that out.

I put a small dent into the pile we have but there's a TON more to do and of course the weather is NOT looking good for tomorrow or Saturday. As long as there aren't storms, however, I'll be splitting because I need to get this done by end of day Sunday. Wish me luck.

Dinner tonight will be another easy meal: Trader Joe's General Tso's Chicken with broccoli and rice.

Not much else is happening. It's Cinco de Mayo today so I might have to enjoy a margarita today or at least one of those Modelo Lime y Sal...if I can find a 12-pack of it.

K - well, time to get a move on. School is school...nothing exciting...just wrapping things up and figuring out what I'm going to do for exams.

Happy Thursday...so ready and excited for the weekend. Later!
