Prior to heading to school (we're supposed to be there at 8:30 for our breakfast) I'll go to a local breakfast joint (Le Peep) with a few of the ladies from school. I may or may not partake in a mimosa or 2. I fasted yesterday instead of today so I could have breakfast this morning and I can't wait. I just might indulge! (I'm rubbing my hands together and saying, "Yumyumyumyumyum!!!")
Jim's jealous of my breakfast plans and said last night, "What time? Maybe I could go into work a little late and go with you." I said, "Yeah, you're not invited. You don't want to sit there with the ladies from work." He said, "I'll sit at a different table." But then he realized that he would rather go to work early, get done and get out early. I told him we could go to this breakfast place soon (it's a really good one with a great menu and he's never been). He was good with that.
In other news, I kept waking up last night as I do whenever I roll over (hot flash) and the first thing that would come to mind was the Uvalde shooting and I can't stop thinking about it. I just keep thinking about those kids stuck in that nightmare for nearly an hour with the police doing hardly anything. And those that survived, those kids? How are they going to get past this? It's just so heartbreaking and infuriating!
I had bad news yesterday about one of my students. She's the one who was diagnosed with cancer recently. She's had medical issues all her life including a heart transplant when she was a baby. When she got the cancer diagnosis, it's such a rare one that Children's here in Cincy had never dealt with a case. The family had to go to Stanford to meet with a specialist about treatment. From there, it was decided that she had a lot of other issues including needing a double transplant - kidney and heart. For the last month - most of 4th quarter - she's been in the hospital. Her mother emailed me yesterday to say that she'd taken a turn for the worse and they were releasing her to go home and hospice has been called in. I'm so sad for her and her family. She's never been able to catch a break it seems and with all that, she's always been the sweetest girl with a great attitude. Ugh!
Today is the last day for the kids in Loveland and so the neighbors surrounding are going to have a little celebration when the kids get off the bus. Afterwards, we're all going to get together for a cookout tonight. I hope the weather holds and we don't have too much rain.
And that's all I've got. I need to get my toothers brushed and head out to breakfast. Happy Friday! Happy Summer! Later!
