Today I'll just be getting organized. I'll send out IEPs, email a couple parents (to set up September IEPs) and then just sort of figure out what I'm doing these first few weeks. I'm not going to kill myself trying to organize binders (like I used to do) because the kids and I will do that in class the first couple days. I'll make any copies of stuff I need to make (we're reading Othello first thing in LA so I'll print that out for the kids) and then I'll just get "start of the school year" surveys ready for the kids.
In Jim news, he's progressing a little every day. He seemed to have a bit more pain yesterday (I think he wore himself out Sunday) but he's not even 2 weeks out so it's expected. Speaking of which, he'll have his follow-up appointment with the surgeon on Monday 8/23 so I've had to take that day off already. Them's the breaks and after that, I'm guessing that Jim will be able to drive so he can take himself to appointments but we'll see. I think he has a podiatrist appointment on that day too. Hmm...
Yesterday was fine. I like our new superintendent so far. He's funny and I've only heard good things about him. Unfortunately my principal is still annoying and too long-winded for anyone's good. I mean, why do we need to have a 3 hour meeting? So stupid. And truthfully it wasn't about anything. After that, we had a sped "training" for a new program being implemented in the sped department to provide reading and math intervention. It was really kind of a shit show. I mean one hour isn't near enough to get us ready for whatever it is we're supposed to do with this program. I was floundering and not just because I didn't do shit over the summer and set up my account. I wasn't the only one who seemed to come out of the meeting flummoxed. Unless you're going to provide me with professional development time for training, I don't have time to peruse this shit during my "free time". Oh, yeah, and not only do I not have time but even if I did, nope...not going to do it either. Sorry not sorry. Don't throw shit at me and just expect me to figure it out myself. I'm not going to put up with that kind of headache...I don't get paid enough.
Got up at 4:00 this morning so I could get my exercise on. I know you're thinking, Muir, you're nuts! And I know it but with Jim on the bench, I have to come home, walk both dogs (separately) then either ride my bike or get on the elliptical and I'd like to do yoga but after completing those two things, there's just not enough time because then I need to cook dinner. So, I thought, I'll get up at 4:00 and elliptical that way I can do a small yoga after walking the dogs! And you know what? I'm glad I did. I don't know that I'll be able to keep that up but today if felt good.
Oh, and dinner tonight will be spaghetti with ground chicken and for me, a salad (none for Jim yet). Speaking of Jim eating, his appetite is definitely back which I'm so happy about. He's been eating like a champ and though his portion size isn't huge, he's eating well. You should see his poor little stick legs...they are so skinny and not in a great way...he has no muscle mass. When he can, he needs to really start lifting some hand weights.
And that's all I've got. I have a lot to do so I'd best get going. Happy Tuesday!
