Good Start

Yesterday was the first day with all students and though it was hectic and I felt like I was flying by the seat of my pants (because I was), it was a good day. The kids I have (the new kids) seem good. We certainly have a group of freshmen with a LOT of issues (past trauma, anxiety, etc.) but so far they seem good. We'll see how things play out over the next few weeks since of course we're in a honeymoon phase right now. It was so good to see my kids faces (yes, we're currently "mask friendly" leaving the option of wearing a mask to the students but I kind of expect that to change) as there are some I'd never seen in person before. 

Today's plans for school: Still sort of flying by the seat of my pants. I'll do some "getting-to-know-you" activities in LA today. For history I'm going show the kids some tricks in completing packets they'll be getting throughout the year (independent work for when I'm out, like on Monday) and then in science, who knows. I might try to do an Earth Science intro video. We'll see. 

In weekend news, Jim and I are going out tomorrow morning with the hopes of getting new iPhones and most likely switching our carrier. Currently Verizon is giving $800 back with trade in. We'll see what they have to offer. I also need to get a new Apple watch. The one I have is a series 3 (I think) and by dinner time, my battery is almost dead. When I first got it I could go almost 2 days before needing to recharge. Ugh. I anticipate a lot of money flying out of my wallet. Oh well...I've been using an iPhone 6 for the past 6 years so I think it's time. 

Last night Jim and I ended up having leftovers so tonight we'll have what I was going to have: One-sheet pan keilbasa with roasted potatoes and broccoli for me, green beans for Jimmy. 

HOLY SHIT!!! I just checked my 5/3 account and saw a huge amount of money in my checking. I thought, "That's more than I would expect from my paycheck!" And BAM!!! Unemployment tax refund showed up from the IRS! $2660!!! Bam! That makes me feel better for getting new phones this weekend.
