October Baseball!!!

I would have liked it if the Reds won yesterday but in the end, the Mets lost and so we're off to October baseball! I loved watching the celebration. Those guys were so happy and silly. So excited for them. The sucky thing? They're playing in LA which means 9 o'clock games and what's Muir doing at 9 o'clock on a school night? Yup...sleeping. I might have to be tired this week. We'll see. Maybe a little cat nap starting tomorrow to get me through?

The weekend was good. Pretty chill. On Saturday I mowed the front and back yard and I have to say that it's pretty lush out there, which is surprising considering how dry it's been. We got such good rain last week that it pretty much erased the drought in my yard. Of course we're back in the dry pattern so I'm guessing I won't need to mow again for a couple weeks. And then it'll be due to leaves.

Anyway, while I mowed, Jim went out and ran errands. He went to the butcher shop, got me a car wash and then to Aldi. After that we headed to Shooters for a bit then came home and just hung out and watched football. I made a yummy steak dinner with French onion potatoes and asparagus. Sunday after walking the boys and breakfast, we went to Trip and Susan's for a couple hours to swim and get a quick volleyball game in. Their pool was nice and warm with their heater on. We were home in time to watch the Reds play.

The week at work should be typical. I'm starting my Harry Potter unit which should be fun. I do have an IEP on Friday but no big deal. I do have an issue I'll need to deal with when I get to school today. So to back track, Friday, Greg had a really rough day. I got an email from his mother before school started saying he was having a rough morning and basically, good luck. He was good for me and good in Lisa's Geometry class but by 5th bell, he was apparently melting down. Mom sent a message saying he'd sent her a text to come pick him up. She said, "That's not happening" but let me know that he was starting to spiral.

Fast forward to 7th bell and Greg walked in asking if he could just have a break for a minute. I said yes, and told him he'd have 5 minutes before he needed to go to French class. However, it was clear that he wasn't in any condition to deal with class. He proceeded to sob for the next 35 minutes. It broke my heart. I asked him what was wrong but all he could say was, "I don't know." I sent mom a message about what was happening and her response was, "Tell him I'll bring him dinner." (He's on the football team and was staying after school for practice etc.) When he left at the end of the day, he'd managed to stop crying but it was just pitiful.

Yesterday I got an email from his mother asking how we could help him academically and mentally so that he doesn't continue to spiral. She's worried that he'll have to be hospitalized again (apparently this has happened before) and Friday was reminiscent of when it happened in the past. Here's my conundrum: I'm not trained to deal with these mental health issues. I'm there as a safe space for him and I'm happy to give him an ear to talk to, but if he's in crisis, I'm not equipped. And this is what's wrong with special ed right now. They've started putting all these kids on IEPs for mental health issues and how am I supposed to give "specially designed instruction" for these issues when I'm not a qualified therapist?

I hope that Greg has had a better weekend but I'm not feeling very positive right now. I will do what I can to help when it comes to his classes so that isn't a stressor and he's connected with Beech Acres (our outside mental health facilitator) but beyond that what can I do? Ugh!

Dinner: I'll grill some chicken and make some broccoli and rice. Nothing too exciting but easy.

And that's all I've got. time to get a move on. Happy Monday! Oh, and Who dey! Maybe the Bengals will surprise us tonight? Later!
