I Survived!

Barely but I did survive my late night last night. It was a near thing, however, when one of my former students showed up with her three kids. She nearly knocked me out of my chair hugging me. And then, for the rest of the night I had to dodge her as she tried to find Lisa. 

To backtrack, this is a former student who graduated around 2005, which puts her around in the 37/38 age range. She was one of the students who was in all pullout (sped) classes for academics. I would estimate her IQ to be somewhere around 50. No lie. She now has 3 kids and it seems that at least two of them are even lower than she was. Her middle child seems to be a little "smarter".

When she came in last night, the first thing she said to me was, "I WAS YOUR FAVORITE!!!!" And then she told me, "My dad died." Followed by, "My aunt died today." Her son kept trying to talk to her but she kept talking over him and saying (loudly), "Ask Mrs. Hanke! I was quiet! I was quiet! I was a good kid. I was her favorite!" She's quite the conversationalist as you can tell. I kept saying to her, "Well, it was good to see you." Trying to get her to move on but she just wasn't picking up what I was putting down. Finally, I said, "You should go see Mrs. O! She'd love to see you!" And off she went in search. Then I felt bad and immediately sent Lisa a text saying, "Prepare yourself." 

After that, Lisa and I tried to dodge her for the rest of the night but finally, with the help of my dumb ass principal, we got cornered. And this time, she brought her sister. Her sister then proceeded to tell me (and I'm not exaggerating AT ALL!) all the people in her family that died. Truly. It started with her dad. Then her aunt. Her brother. Her nephew. When she said, "My first cousin died in 2019" I started to laugh. I managed to stop myself but seriously, I got a major case of the giggles. And she just kept going! It was just so freaking crazy. I looked around for the camera but, nope, this was reality! About the time I nearly lost it again, a guidance counselor came over and rescued Lisa and I. 

Thank the baby Jesus that her daughter, who will be 9th grader next year, will be in the MD classroom. I'll at least be able to avoid direct contact with her for a few years until her son gets to the high school. I'm pretty sure he'll be in my classes. But hey, maybe by then I'll be retired. 

So YAY! It's finally Friday! We have no plans tonight but tomorrow we're celebrating Jimmy's bday. We're headed to Forno and I can't wait. Beyond that, we'll hang and I guess we'll watch the Super Bowl on Sunday. I still don't know who I'm rooting for. On the one hand I'm sick of the Chiefs and Mahomes annoys me but I like Travis Kelce. And I've historically hated the Niners. It's a conundrum. 

Oh, I bought a new facial product that I'm pretty excited about. It's called Nuderma High Frequency Wand and it uses argon and neon to zap all kinds of issues on your face. I used it for the first time last night and liked it. I'll use it a few more times before I give you a thumbs up or down.
