Heat Pump Woes

First I'll say that the weekend was lovely. It was great to get away and hang with family if only for a day. I was sad that Jim couldn't go but he was okay with it. There were a lot of laughs, cards, yummy food, Wii contests and maybe a drink or two. Mom came over on Saturday afternoon and hung out for a few hours. We stayed up way too late (for me) and I got up way too early yesterday but had nothing to do but drive home. I was on the road a little after 11 (after breakfast and after Trip and I delivered a can of whoop ass on Maggie and Susan in euchre) and drove straight to Shooters. After walking Scout (Jim walked Boo) I hunkered down for a much needed nap. Yesterday evening saw Jim and I watching Fargo in front of a fire with leftovers on the menu. 

I was in bed early with the hopes of catching up on sleep but that wasn't meant to be. Around 2:00 AM, I was jolted awake by a weird smell. It was very chemically and freaked me out. I startled Jim out of bed and we deduced that our heat pump is most likely on its last leg. Of course it is. I ended up turning off the unit but the smell lingered and of course freaked me out and so I didn't get much more than a couple more hours sleep. Ugh. 

When Jim got out of bed this morning, he immediately called our HVAC guy who is on the way to see what's what. I Googled what was happening and it seems most likely that there's a leak and the refrigerant is the smell. Great! I foresee a chuck of change coming out of my savings here in the next day. Well, maybe it will be a more efficient in the long run. I don't know. It's always something isn't it? 

So plans today: Sell some plasma to try and afford a new heat pump. Just kidding. I've done yoga and after this I'll get on the elliptical. Then I'll walk Scout. I need to go to the grocery and then I'm going to work on replacing the fabric on the kitchen chairs. 

Dinner tonight: I have a new dish I want to try: Chicken Tuscan bake. I'll probably serve it over egg noodles and maybe some broccoli. 

And that's all I've got. Fingers crossed the fix on the heat pump isn't too major but I have a feeling it will be. We replaced it in 2007 (nice to have this blog to refer to and give me exact dates for these things) and it's lasted a lot longer than it really should have. Ugh! When we replaced it then, it was about $5000 so I'm expecting that price to be double. Man oh man!
