It Finally Found Me

Covid, that is. For the first time since the pandemic started that I have tested positive for Covid.  Yes, I had a cold last week (and it's still lingering) but it only felt like a cold...possibly due to allergies or maybe a result of all the dust I breathed in while mulching the leaves. I wouldn't have thought twice except I realized last night while cooking that I couldn't smell the onions sautéing nor the wine cooking down in my chicken marsala. I said to Jim, "Can you smell the onions cooking? And the wine?" He said, "Yes." I said, "Uh oh." And then I realized that a couple days ago, Lisa told me how bad our room smelled and I said to her, "Gosh, I must just be immune to it sitting in there all day because I can't smell a thing." And then I also realized that I've had this niggling headache on the side of my head, right behind my ear for a few days. So, sent Maggie a text that said, "I can't smell or taste." And she immediately called and said, "Take a test." So I did. And it was very quickly positive.

I wasn't sure what to do because really I feel fine and obviously I've had it for a while and I don't know what the protocol is anymore. I called Lisa and she wasn't sure what to do so I sent a text to my principal. He said, "Stay home until you're symptom-free, just like any illness at this point." So I don't know if I'll go tomorrow or what. I don't want to get anyone else sick. I mean, do I stay home until I test negative? I looked on the website and it said, "If you test positive for Covid, stay home for the next 5 days." Hmm...I might just call the nurse and find out what I'm supposed to do.

Here's what really sucks: I can't freaking smell or taste much of anything. I can taste my pumpkin spice creamer a bit but I only have that at school so I'm not able to enjoy it right now. I can kind of taste the tartness of the grapes in my fruit but not much else. Dinner last night was a bummer...I was looking forward to it and couldn't taste it. I was just giving the boys their Denta-sticks and couldn't tell which one was beef and which was the mint...I had to have Jim smell. (Scout is allergic to beef and needs some breath freshener.) I sure hope this comes back soon.

In the meantime, I get to hang out with my babies today. I'm not sure what I'll do. Definitely walk them and if it's dry enough I'll do some mulching of leaves...we'll see. I'm sure I should take it easy but again, I don't feel bad. I still have a nagging cough thing and like I said I have a niggling headache but that's bearable.

BTW - Jim's fine. I guess if he gets it he gets it.

Okay well, time to...go drink another tasteless cup of coffee and wait for the sun to come up. Happy Wednesday! Later!
