Yesterday, the sped department got together to compile the lists upon lists upon lists that need to be done in preparation for next year. This entails making a list of caseloads (we each have 18 with the exception of one person who has 17; if you're counting, that's 125 kids, not counting the multihandicapped ones); making a list of those kids in coteaching and pullout classes and finally making a list of teaching assignments. Now, I call a little bit of bullshit on the teaching assignments because it seems that for some, they get to teach what they want and for others they have to concede. Of course we're all going to do whatever we're told and these decisions are at the whim of the principal. It's frustrating however, because he's new and doesn't seem to take our word about certain things...I guess he just needs to see things for himself.
In the end, I've got my normal 3 classes to teach (2 LA and a history). They've cut all our guided interventions (special ed study halls) to 2 (though one person has 1 and one has 3...again - bullshit) and that leaves one period open for me. I was coerced/strong-armed into saying I'd do a "coteaching" World Studies class next year. However, I was VERY clear that I was not considering this a coteaching assignment as I don't really plan on coteaching (we've tried this before and it's stupid); I'm not the expert and I'm not going to try and stand up there and lecture. I will be the modifier, the accommodator, the interpreter of cursive (my colleague writes in cursive and most of the kids can't read it) etc. I'm thinking my cohort will be open and receptive to this. I'm not worried.
Today - we are having another negotiation meeting. Originally it was scheduled from 8-1 so that we would all be available for our early release meeting. This (of course) got pushed to 9 because our lawyer can't seem to make it before then...ever. Which means we'll probably not start until 10 and we'll break around 11 for lunch and then the other side won't return until 12:30 so...ARG!!! I'm actually not too upset at the later start because I need to get to school early for elections and then I need to lickity split finish up a world studies test and make a study guide. Woke up thinking of that last night...oops.
K - I best get a move on. Need to be at school in a half hour. SHIT! Later!
