August to December is always a countdown to Winter Break. January through May is a countdown to Summer Break and that has now started. I'm sure it will crawl by but lets thinking positively, huh? Lets assume it will fly by like the first part of the year did.
I'm a bit unsure of what to expect when I get to school today...not sure if there will be gobs of news people there or not. Hoping NOT! Not sure what the legalities are with this but it is a public school and there have been news people on premises when I've arrived before so who knows. We are scheduled to have a 7 AM meeting before school starts today - guidance for dealing with the Josh/Leelah Alcorn issue - and there will be a moment of silence before school starts. We've been told that the parents have directed the staff to refer to the student (in writing at least) using the name given at birth as well as masculine pronouns. I'm not totally comfortable with this. I continue to say Leelah and he/she. I know it will be confusing to the kids and I wonder how many of them will want clarification for what happened. I'm sure we will be told the parameters to follow in the meeting today. So sad.
Maggie arrives today for Joan's funeral tomorrow. She should be here by the time I get home which means Jim will be busy, busy, busy, cleaning and prepping for Princess Eva and Queen Maggie. Hee hee. We'll just hang tonight...I'll make spaghetti and a salad. The visitation is tomorrow at 10:00 and then there's a prayer service directly after at 1:00. I'm not sure how we'll work all this out since I'm not sure how Eva will do. We'll see and talk about it. I just want to be there for Becky as I'm sure this is so difficult for her and she's had a lot to deal with these last several days (months).
Okay well, I need to get rolling...get to school early to figure out what the heck I'm doing. I'm not too worried about that as I am ensuring I have plans ready for tomorrow.
Happy Monday. Oh and STINK that the Bengals and Lions lost. I HATE THE COWBOYS and look forward to them losing soon! Later!
