I'm going to make this short and sweet because I'm exhausted and after I do this and then walk the dogs I'm going to pour myself a much needed glass of wine and lay on the couch!
So, the meeting went fine. I was very nervous but my union rep said I handled myself very well. So what if I was all red and blotchy! That's just me and what am I going to do? Take a Valium every time I get called into a meeting? I'd develop a real problem then. Anyway, the meeting was pretty much run by HH. Mr. Adhd didn't say a word until he was called on to do so. HH's biggest issue was the fact that I went against a "directive" given by an administrator. When I responded to this I only said (over and over again) that I was following the law. When asked point blank, "So when you were given a directive you didn't follow that directive?" Me: "I followed the law." What I wanted to say was, "Maybe it's okay for you to go against what federal law says but that's not how I run." He also asked me, "So if the situation occurred again, you'd do the same thing?" Me: "I'll always follow the law."
It was also pointed out several times by me and Mrs. Ding Dong that I had sought out the advice of FW - my department head. I made it clear that they knew that before I did anything I asked FW what she thought I should do. I also made it quite clear that the student chose to come to his own meeting of his own accord. None of this really mattered though because these idiots can't get off their big old high horse and get over the fact that I didn't do what they asked me to do because IT VIOLATED THE STUDENTS RIGHTS!!! They just can't handle that.
The meeting ended with me giving my letter from one of the ladies who attended the meeting to HH. I was then told that it would be discussed with the superintendent and from there, Mrs. Ding Dong would be contacted (if it went further). So, we'll see.
Mrs. Ding Dong got to see first hand how schizo and all-over-the-place Mr. Adhd is. She also said she doesn't think if will go anywhere and if anything comes out of it, it will be that there needs to be better communication between parties (admin and sped department). My outcome, however, is that the admins need to be trained properly in special ed before they are allowed to stick their dumb f*%k noses in and cause a lawsuit.
Oh, on a funny note, one of the other ladies in attendance last week emailed me her own letter itemizing the events from the meeting. In her email, she mentioned too that she had spoken to the father from this ordeal on Friday. He said to her that he "knew I knew my job well and was good at it." WTF?! I forwarded that to Mrs. Ding Dong too. Her response was, "Well, Holy Cow!"

Why am I not surprised? I am sure HH told AD to keep his mouth shut and I am not surprised HH played the "you didn't do what you were told," card. You probably hurt their feelings that you are not falling down and begging for forgiveness. You know they don't like to admit to any wrong. I am glad for you the meeting is over and I agree with Mrs. that it probably won't go any further. Heaven forbid if they had to admit they were wrong. Good job standing your ground.
The bottom line is that you were right and did the right thing for the student. You handled yourself well! They just showed their true colors.
