One week from today I'll hopefully be hopping in the car to head to PIB! And bonus! I don't have to take the day off because we don't have school. Woot! Can't wait! As of now, the weather looks good. Temps in the 50s, no rain expected with winds, not too harsh, at about 15 mph. Fingers crossed the weather holds! It's always a crapshoot this time of year with the winds shutting down the ferry.
I'm so tempted to take a day "off" teaching today and give the kids a break but I need to collect data for IEPs. This means my kids in ELA will have independent work to do. They hate it but it has to be done. In history, I've been having them work for half the class on the unit study guide (it's over 5 chapters) and then the other half we spend watching Dances With Wolves. Yesterday we watched the scene where they find the buffalo slaughtered by the white man for the hides and then left to rot. We just studied this so they were enthralled. In science I am giving the kids a break since they took a test yesterday. I'm going to get some candy at the store when I go during my plan, I'll pop some popcorn and then show a Halloween movie. I'm thinking Hocus Pocus. Of course the kids want a scary movie but Muwee doesn't do scary!
The weekend is going to be awesome (I hope). Here's why: 1) We're getting Mexican for dinner tonight 2) I'm pretty sure it's going to cold enough to have a fire tomorrow night 3) We're headed to the outlets tomorrow in Monroe to get shoes for Jimmy (I need a pair of sneakers) and who knows what else 4) After the outlets I'm hoping we go to a new brewery - Moeller Brew Barn (it looks so good!) and 5) I'm making my first soup of the season - Italian meatball soup! Can't wait!
I was watching the latest episode of GBBO this morning and it's Mexican week. These Brits are so ignorant about Mexican food. It's pretty funny. They didn't know what pico de gallo was and they were totally ignorant about how to pronounce "gallo", and "tortilla" (pronounced with the "lls" instead of the "y" sound). I mean have they never heard Spanish!? Of course Mexican Spanish is different from Spain Spanish so I guess I'll give them a break.
Oh, and then on the show they were talking about cilantro and one of them said how much they love cilantro and coriander but they get how it's something people either loves or hates (I lean toward hate). Then guy on said that there's a gene the some people have and it makes cilantro taste like soap! I had no idea! I must have this gene! Makes so much sense! (I looked it up too and it's true.)
Okay well, that's all I've got. No meetings today (the one yesterday went swimmingly) so yay! Happy Friday!!! Happy weekend! Later!
