I guess it's understandable that I got a text from Maggie giving me grief because I hadn't posted yet. But then I realized that if she listened to me, she would remember that I had taken today off for Jim's doctor's appointment and so of course I wouldn't have posted yet because I just woke up!!! Rude! I guess since I haven't posted since Friday morning, however, it's kind of understandable...I'll cut her some slack.
So this weekend was a bit of a doozy. It started out well...I got home and immediately got a text from my neighbor wanting to have a cocktail so I hightailed it next door and proceeded to drink a beer. And then we were talking and she had asked how Jim was and I told her about his leg giving him fits and so she offered to take a look at it (she's a nurse). She went to my house while I watched her kids and when she came back I could tell she was worried. It was the same concern I had (and had been thinking about ): A possible blood clot. I called the doctor but of course it was 4:15 on a Friday of a 3-day weekend and he wasn't able to get back to us until 7:15 and by that time we were headed to the ER...where we sat until midnight...with no real results because of course the techs who run the Doppler machine in the imaging center went home at end of business day. UGH! In the end, Jim was given an injection of blood thinner and we were given an appointment for 8:00 am the next morning to check his leg and sent on our way. (The ER doc never even looked at his leg.)
The scan went well and thank the baby Jesus it wasn't a blood clot. I worried it was cellulitis but when we went in yesterday for blood draw and to get his leg checked by Jill, she set our minds at ease that his leg issues were all a result of his jacked up liver and his body's response to all the drugs he's on (especially the prednisone).
In terms of the pred, we'll find out today if Jim can reduce again...fingers crossed...the way Jim is affected by this drug is killing me. He's a disaster, a pill, an emotional mess and it is wearing him thin and I miss my husband. I feel like minute to minute his personality changes. It goes from normal to confused to weepy to confused to lethargic to obstinate.
Jim's weight is lower than I've ever known it to be. He's currently down below 230. When this all started in December he was at 250ish. He's lost a ton of muscle mass in his legs and arms. I can't see the difference elsewhere but I think that's the prednisone that's causing his belly to distend a bit and his face to look fuller. He's eating well though so there is that. He just needs to start working his way back to having some stamina and getting back in "shape". He has been directed by Jill to use the recumbent bike twice a day for 15 minutes (working up to an hour a day) and this seemed to irritate Jim (everything does of late). It's like he wants to sit on his ass all day and color and that isn't okay with me. And of course this turns into an argument with us because I want him to push himself and get back to himself and feel better (which I think a little activity will help with) and he...well, he doesn't want to do that. It's incredibly frustrating. I'm sick of being a bitch and being that nagging wife but I'm stubborn, more stubborn than Jim and I'm going to keep it up until I get what I want.
Okay well, time to get breakfast on the table...and maybe treat myself to a mimosa...I deserve it, right? Happy Tuesday...looks like I didn't get a sub to fill my absence today. Oh well, I can't worry about that. Later!
