- I'm thankful I live in a country that has such great health care. I wonder what things would be like for Jim if we lived somewhere less fortunate. Canada, for instance. The typical wait time for a consult with a specialist is approximately 9 weeks. WHAT?! And that's just the consult. Scheduling treatment based on that consult can be equally as long. I may bitch and moan about not getting phone calls back right away but on the other hand, I've actually complained that appointments have been made within a week of calling without my/Jim's input. A week. I should stop bitching. However, this is my Jimmy and whatever this is (though we probably know) I just want to get a move on to getting him better! Thankfully in this country, that can and will happen starting in about a week. (December 7th biopsy)
- I'm thankful for my friends and family. I foresee a preoccupation with all this shit over the next weeks/months and I'm just happy I have people around me who listen to my freak out moments but also distract me. It makes me tear up knowing how many people I have around me offering up their ear/shoulder/liver. Lots of people don't have that. Thank you!
- I'm thankful for my little Sami. That girl makes me smile every time I see her. She's so funny. I know not everyone gets her (she can be a grump) but truthfully the only people that need to get her are her daddy and me. I believe our pets are dropped into our lives not by chance or random happenstance but because someone up there knows what a particular pup needs and which people down here can provide for those needs. For instance, my Aunt Kathleen. She's had a lot of sorrow because she's lost a couple of her pups too early but I tell you, Beau and Buddy don't see it that way. She was able to give those boys the best possible care before passing on and you have to wonder if they had had lives with someone else, would they have been so lucky in love? I don't think so. I'm thankful for my girl Sami but I know she's just as thankful that she was rescued by her daddy and me.
- I'm thankful for my job. I have the greatest administration who are so understanding and it makes the situation Jim and I are going through a little easier. I used to assume that the administration and the staff I work with are the norm but I don't think that's true. I think my situation might just be extraordinary and pretty special. But even if it is the norm, I like thinking it's not.
I'm so thankful for so many other things - I could keep going on and on but I think I'll go pour a mimosa instead because really, top of the list? I'm thankful for Mimos! Happy Thanksgiving! Hope all have a pleasant one.
