I'm pretending that yesterday didn't happen. Well, to clarify - just the 8 hours I spent in training on how to write an SLOs (student learning objective). I came away thinking: A) I'm more f&%ked than I thought I was in what I don't know B) No one seems to know anything or enough to answer questions with authority and C) I'm supposed to now be fit to "train" others in SLO writing and "grade" them?! Uh...I don't think so. I wonder if I can return the $150 stipend and say, "Sorry, my mistake...I'm just not qualified for this mental f&%k that the state is throwing at us!
At the end of the training, the instructor asked if we felt overwhelmed and/or if we had learned anything and one teacher answered something like: "It actually makes me feel better that our administrators don't know everything and they're still learning things too." WH-WH-WHAT!? My response was, "Uh, NO! I'd prefer that they were experts, please!" What a ridiculous thing to say! In this shitstorm that the state has turned education into, I'd like to know that SOMEONE IN MY BUILDING has an answer to my questions! Someone who can tell me what the F&%K I'm doing considering my job could depend on this! Because so far, my curriculum director doesn't see to know what the hell is going on and when I asked a question yesterday, I had our instructor telling me one thing and a supposed trained principal telling me another.
Thank you Ohio for putting this evaluation system into place before it's actually been A) tested for major flaws and B) found to be effective AT ALL!
Reminder: Play the Powerball!
In other news - Jim got the elliptical put together. It's pretty awesome. I got on it yesterday and was only able to go 15 minutes (at the lowest resistance setting). I got off it and had jelly legs. Yowza! I will try to go again today. I'm not sore this morning so that's good. Jim managed to go 19 minutes and really liked it. He said afterwards, he was able, for the first time in forever, to bend over and tie his shoes (he normally has to sit at the top of the stairs). He wants to go again today and I just told him to make sure he isn't sore and that he feels good because he doesn't want to hurt himself by NOT resting.
There's a bit of a shitstorm happening at work in regard to the bargaining team chosen for negotiations (of which I'm a part). I believe I know the teacher who started it (Baldie) and I'm sure he's pissed (and flabbergasted) he wasn't chosen to be on it. Part of the problem people are having is - they have 4 teachers (of the six chosen) from the high school. Now, I agree in a way that every building should be represented but I don't know the pool from which they drew. I know that the current team represents people from all genres of teaching (fine arts, special ed, etc.). Whatever though, I'll do what needs to be done and if that means stepping down, so be it. I just want to make sure there are people who have my best interests at heart...and I don't believe Baldie does. I don't trust him, nor does anyone else and he wouldn't make the team anyway.
K - I'm out. I'm sure I have a lot of papers to grade at school. Happy Tuesday. Later!
