New (Aussie) Sayings

So I was getting my "Australia" PowerPoint ready to teach the kids the other day and I try and to include fun things about the country - just to keep the kids on their toes. One slide I've included has to do with Aussie sayings or lingo and let me just tell you that on the website I found, there were more inappropriate sayings that I can't use than appropriate. Here are some examples that didn't make the cut (try and use them in your everyday conversations today):

  • Dog's balls (something obvious): "Did you see that wart on the end of that ladies nose? It stands out like a dog's balls!"
  • Who opened their lunch? (OK, who farted?): "Oh my God, Jim!!! Did you open your lunch? Geehosaphat!!!"
  • Wearing the wobbly boot (to be drunk): "I think Jim has his wobbly boot on because he just climbed in bed with the dog."
  • Clacker (anus): "I wish you silly clackers would quit asking me silly questions and just do your work!!!"
  • Dry as a dead dingo's donger (really dry): "Man! I'm so thirsty my tongue is as dry as a dead dingo's donger!"

Must be an Egbert thing! Dan opens his lunch box all the time and let me tell you that is one stinky lunch box!! I will definitely have that saying down before we get there. I can also get a lot of practice of the "wobbly boot" thing with all this snow and cabin fever! Thank God the liquor store is open!
