I just looked at the date and realized that in 10 days, I will be at school in meetings and whatnot. Though this does not make me happy and I don't really look forward to going back to work, I am not dreading it as I have in the past. Now this is probably a sure sign of a horrible year but I am trying not to think in those terms. Why do I continue to do so anyway? Well, for one thing, I have a new principal who has no experience as a principal (a vice-principal yes but not running the whole show) and I just don't know what to expect. From what I've heard he's going to me "mixing it up".
The second thing is that we will have 2 assistant principal this year one of whom was a teacher at my school (came the same year I did) and is really a moron. He has no clue about special ed, he's a loud mouth (yells at kids in his office so the whole main office can hear - I can't wait for the new principal to get a load of that) and he doesn't discipline certain kids properly, as per student handbook. I think because he's scared of them. These are the kids that continuously have issues (kids on probation; just out of JDC) and because they aren't properly addressed, they get away with crap and then dish out more crap and UGH!!! I hate pansies.
The third issue which isn't a problem but makes me worry and stresses me out is that we have a new program in the special ed department. It is a program for MH (multi-handicapped) students. These are kids with serious developmental issues and social issues and toilet issues. We have hired a new teacher for this program (I am very excited about her and look forward to working with her. We'll see if I say that this time next year) but the drawback (this year only) is that we now have 6 full-time special ed teachers in just 3 - count them 1-2-3 classrooms. UGH!!! Why is this a problem you ask? Well because there will be 4 periods where two classes will be in one room. It is going to be mayhem, I'm sure but I'm trying to look at the positive.
A fourth issue which is only an issue because I'm clueless is that I will have a student teacher for the first 8 weeks of school. I have never had a student teacher and though it will free me up for a while, it is still another responsibility and with IEP's starting in September for all freshmen (60 some) I may just start sinking under all the paperwork I will be forced to swim in.
Now for good things: I have two new books that I've discovered which I will be teaching to the students this year. I have decided after a weeks worth of "getting started" crap, to go directly into reading a novel this year. The books that I've found are "Touching Spirit Bear" by Ben Mikalsen and "And Then There Were None" by Agatha Christie. I don't know which one I'll do first - I may have the kids decide - but I look forward to something new in my language arts class.
Anyway, today is full of errand running and hanging with my pups. Later.

Ummm, I didn't see my name mentioned under the "good things". Are you trying to tell me something here??
Extra Special Awesome Things that I Would be Lost and Out of My Mind If I didn't Have:
Sharing a room with the best intervention specialist in the world!!! (That's a given though).
Awwww! You are so sweet once you are reminded of how awesome you have it at work.
Nah, really, I would be totally lost without you too. You keep me sane when I'm having a meltdown concerning a certain parent. I could go on, but I think it might start sounding gay, so I'll stop. Anyway, I truly am grateful that I have you to lean on at work. Otherwise, I think I would be in the looney bin.
