Blackjack - My Nemesis

So my day yesterday:

Jim and I got up, drank coffee (mmm, coffee - hold on, must go fill up), and then walked the dogs. I have been working really hard trying to get my pups behavior slightly modified from their usual "leader of the pack" mentality. (Courtesy: Dog Whisperer) It's been going well.

Then, since it had been about 2 weeks, we mowed the lawn. Jim had gone to his brother's house and taken that lawn mower so we had two and while I mowed the back yard, Jim conquered the front. I finished first so I then went out and assisted Jim. Pretty funny, I'm sure, dueling mowers. We finished lickity split and were then able to get ready to go to the pool.

Yesterday was one of those perfect days. There was, at no point while at the pool, a cloud in the sky. The water was warmer than the air when the wind blew and I had a nice, relaxing time: A little paddle ball, a little cornhole, a lot of lounging and playing with Brutus and Zoe (Maggie's dog).

We left at around 5 and ran home to walk the dogs, shower and head down to Mt. Adams to meet Terri for the great, annual Immaculata Festival. Now, understand, I am not usually a "festival" kind of gal. However, I like the small ones - as Immaculata's is - and really enjoy the gambling. Or so I used to. To put it mildly (or milkly as I almost typed), I lost my ASS!!!

Originally, Terri, Jim and I were sitting at a table with Brian - some jackass dealer that must have thought all festival goers are "good Catholics" - like him. Ok, so I'm catholic, but not practicing and not uppity like this crapbag (I know, that isn't very Christian of me - whatever) I mean, at one point, I lost and told Brian he sucked (obviously, I was kidding) and he looked at me like I had the devil sitting on my shoulder. So then it was fun to yell out DAMMIT when things didn't go my way just to get a reaction out of him. Now understand I never said anything really offensive and never did I take the "lord's name in vain" I just wanted to shake things up for him a bit.

Well, Brian didn't last long and he was replaced by Matt. I'm telling you, this guy had just rolled out of bed to come down to work his time at the festival. You have never seen such horrible bedhead (sort of like the guy on the left). I had to get the puck out of there. So we moved to another table to try it with another dealer. This is where we met Bob.

We loved Bob. He was hilarious and would sometimes screw up. Such as accidentally telling me his hand. For example, I would be sitting there with 16 showing (I was first to hit) and Bob would look at his hand (having completed the deal) then look to me and say "player has 17". He would then say, "Shoot! Ooops" and start laughing, an obvious sign that I had better hit (dealer stays on 17). He would also accidentally flip both his cards so the whole table would get to see if we actually had to hit or not. At one point too, Jim had 4 or 5 13's dealt to him in a row and Bob says with the next hand "If I deal you another 13, the table wins". Guess what? Jim was dealt a 13. Terri had 11 Blackjacks (I counted) but even with all this, we all lost BIG!!!

At one point near then end of the night, our table was full and some dude in a suit (on a Saturday night - he must have been out to dinner in the area) comes and stands at our table to play. From the moment he came, the WHOLE table had a run of bad luck. Bob, our dealer, got 21 seven times in a row. It was really unbelievable. Terri, Jim and I sat out until stupid suit dude finally lost all his money and left. What a jackass. So, in the end, Jim and I lost $30 each. UGH!!! I know, I guess it's for the church but EFF - I don't like to lose money. I did have fun, however and since Jim and I are normally losers and don't ever go out, it wasn't such a bad deal.

Our next venture in gambling will be on August 25th when St. Mary's festival (Hyde Park) "comes to town". Should be interesting.

After we left church, we headed toward Terri's house but on the way there she asked did we want to go to the wine bar and have a drink or were we wanting to go home. I asked Jim and unbelievably, he said, "Lets go to the wine bar. It doesn't even feel like 11 to me and I didn't even take a nap today." I said, "I know!!! I'm not even tired." So we went in and had a glass of wine (not Jim as he was designated driver last night - thanks Jim) and listened to a two-man band who were really good (I have no idea who they were). They played guitar and bass and did Guns n Roses, Pearl Jam, etc. It was nice.

At one point at the bar this absolutely flamboyant gay guy walks in (he was so pretty) sees Terri, lifts his arms in the air squeaks "Terri...I just got out" (head moving around the room) "have you seen any of my peeps?" He then stands on his tippy toes and says "Oooh, see you later" and sashayed across the room- to his "peeps" I guess. I loved him. I did feel a bit like a country bumpkin who never goes anywhere and is shell shocked at the "outside world" and all its weirdo's when she finally ventures out.

I am now sitting here, waiting for my eyes to open fully. Since we arrived back home at 1:30 and I got up at 7:30, I'm a little tired and not quite ready to take the dogs (by myself) for their walk. Jim went biking and also took my car in to get fixed (rotors need rotating? and yes, they are open on Sunday). We talked about a Reds game today but I'll have to see how I feel in a couple of hours (draft beer kills me) and if Jim gets home on time.

I'll let you know (as though you care). Later.

We thought about going to the Reds game today too. But after being scorched by the sun during yesterday's game, neither John nor I were ready to expose our skin to the sun again.
