Good News Bad News

The good news: Seniors will be done at school next Friday. Woot. Which means I need to get my senior shit done. It also means that final week for the rest of the high school (9-11) will be the week of May 11th. This is about a week early. My "last day" will be the same as it was and I'll have just as much paperwork to complete but at least I don't have to keep assigning things through the last week.

The bad news: Our school didn't pass its levy. UGH! We were already in trouble for a number of reasons but now who knows what will happen. We have two teachers leaving our school at the end fo the year (one retirement and one going elsewhere I guess) and they aren't replacing them. The crazy thing about that is they are core positions (math and science) and our class sizes are already stupid to this will just make it worse. Oh well...what are you going to do? The really sucky thing about the levy not passing is that it was SO CLOSE! 51% against. It was close like that in November too. I'm not surprised it didn't pass but I am surprised that it didn't pass by so little with the pandemic happening. Loveland's levy (where I actually live) didn't pass either but it was a much larger percentage difference (60% against). Again, not surprised.

Isn't it crazy that education is funded the way it is? You would think that the future of our country would have a much more stable way of ensuring success. You'd think that the future of our country wouldn't be sacrificed when it came to states needing to tighten its belt. I mean the military always has a humongous budget which makes sense but isn't education just as important? It just doesn't make sense. Now is the time to fix this shit! But nope...Ohio is already talking about cutting education funding by 20%. How is that possible?! Ugh!

My plans today: I have a couple meetings and then I need to do some work for school that involves setting up senior meetings and final paperwork. Piddly shit. I also need to map out what I'll be doing for the last two weeks of school to wrap things up. I have a couple kids who are NOT doing shit and are avoiding my emails and attempts to contact and their parents aren't much help. I'll be dealing with that today as well. Thankfully it's a rainy day and I won't be distracted by sunshine and warmth (like I was yesterday).

K - I'm out...I have a meeting in a couple minutes so need to get ready. Happy Wednesday...stay healthy...later!
