Yesterday when I got home I got a text from Lisa saying there where shots fired at the career center associated with my school. It turned out to be a student who killed himself in the parking lot. And then it turned out to be a former special ed student of ours. He had actually deferred his diploma after his senior year last year to go to the career center. So sad. Suicide confounds me but to do it in such a public way is something else I just don't get. It makes you wonder if he had other plans and backed out, harming only himself. I only knew this kid slightly though he was on my caseload the first year when he transferred to my school. Lisa had him on her caseload last year and knew him better. I do remember, however, last year (or maybe it was the year before) I got a random call from one of his teachers asking me to come down to his classroom...he needed to talk to me. When I got there, the teacher was slightly freaked out because apparently in the middle of class, this student started bawling. When the teacher pulled him out of class to talk to him, the student started saying how his life was going nowhere and he didn't know what he was going to do with his life. So sad.
In other news - Jim's finally finished with the job that's run him ragged this week...I think. I haven't talked to him yet since he got home after 1:00 last night. I'm hoping he won't have to go in today since he's already got his 40 hours but who knows.
It's cold as shit this morning. Seven degrees. I'm hoping the roads are fine with no refreeze. The snow stopped early enough last night that most of the roads should be dry. Still wish we had a 2-hour delay though.
And that's all I've got. I need to get a move on because we have an emergency meeting at 7:00 this morning to talk about the incident yesterday.
Happy Friday. Later!
