Back To Reality

I've been back in the states since Tuesday night but reality really set in this morning at 4:10 when my alarm went off. Ugh! Of course I slept like shit but that's the norm anymore on a Sunday before a work week. Oh well, at least I can say that my vacation was awesome and I'm recharged for the rest of the school year. 

So yeah, minus a couple of hiccups with our room at the resort (we had a little flooding issue due to the AC unit in our first room), Jim and I had a fabulous time in the DR. The weather was amazing. The food was amazing. The drinks were amazing. The atmosphere and people were amazing. I hope I get to go back someday. 

I always wondered about the turn over with the staff in a place like that and it was so interesting to see familiar faces. In fact, two of the staff members - the guy who taught Spanish in 2019, and the pool attendee who called Jim his "brother from another mother" or "hermano de otre madre" - actually saw Jim and recognized him immediately.

On Wednesday, after returning, I headed up to Columbus to help Maggie. She's doing really well with her ankle. Surgery went really well according to the doc but she'll be off her foot for 2 months. She will be able to drive as soon as she feels comfortable and off her pain meds. Although, she hasn't taken her pain meds since Wednesday. She'll go back in next week to get her current cast taken off and hopefully get a fiberglass one put on. Her current cast is very cumbersome and I'm sure she's looking forward to having something that isn't so enormous. 

Today is a normal day at school but tomorrow starts state testing. It goes through to next Thursday but I'll be out next Wednesday and Thursday for Jim's surgery. I can't tell you how much I look forward to him getting his new hip. After a sprint through the Miami airport Tuesday night to catch our connection, it's never been more obvious that Jim has suffered enough. I'm so happy for him to feel better. 

Dinner tonight will be an italian sausage and bean ragu with polentta. I've made it before...easy. 

I have an IEP today at 10:15 for my scholarship student. I was supposed to have this the day before I left for vacay but the parent had to reschedule. No big deal. 

Okay - I'm running late and it's raining so I'd best get a move on. Rain all week which is a bummer. I really need the weather to turn warmer for my psyche.
