"Teachers, We Are In Lockdown Mode..."

I'm hoping that today at school, I will not hear this again.

So, yesterday, I was minding my own business, enjoying the premier of "It's A Wonderful Life" to my 2nd period language arts class when the principal came on and announced that we would be in lockdown. We had just had lockdown practice about 2 or 3 weeks earlier and we are only required to practice once a year. I knew something must be going on. So, Lisa and I turned off the lights, locked the door, closed the shades on the windows and moved the kids to an area where they couldn't be seen from the small window in the door. We sat there in quiet for about 10 minutes before the principal came back on the loudspeaker to state that we would remain in lockdown but that teachers could go on with their lessons. Two hours later, we were finally released from our rooms. In the end, we had 12 police cruisers there, 6 search dogs and 4 kids were found with drugs. One was arrested for dealing. An hour later: Some jackass pulled the fire alarm - during the lunch period - and we had to stand outside for about 15 minutes. It took about 10 for the firetrucks to get there and they are about 1/16th of a mile away. I could have run there faster to yell "FIRE!" faster than they responded. There wasn't really a fire though.

Anyway, yesterday was actually not bad. I'm just glad I was in my room and none of my kids were singled out. I got to watch a little Ellen and chill out. However, I hope today will be a little smoother because I do need to teach my social studies class to prepare them for their exam (I didn't have those classes yesterday since I was stuck with my LA class for 2 hours).

That's all the excitement I've got right now. Although we MAY had a huge winter storm hitting here this weekend. I'm hoping for a LOT of snow. So is Bubba. He wants to bury his nose in it and cool down his belly and armpits. Cross your fingers.
