So today I had IEP's and so wasn't able to teach my classes. I happened to have a short break in between 1st and 2nd period so decided to go up to my room to see how the kids were and get a couple things done (they were watching a video on Lizzie Borden). I sat down and there's this blob of green leafy things on my desk and I said to Sue, "who put weeds on my desk?" Well, one of my students - I'll call her Angela - brought me in some "flowers". Now, I'm pretty sure they were probably on the side of the curb at the bus stop and it looked like she may have picked them yesterday and left them in her book bag for a while but isn't that sweet? Poor thing! She's one of the sweetest things you've ever seen - pitiful really with coke-bottle glasses, barely any meat on her bones and the ensembles she puts together to wear to school is a mystery (except that she comes from a very poor family and probably puts on whatever is available and warm).
We should all be so lucky as to get a bouquet of flowers from our students - even if they are really weeds. This is definitely a time when it's the thought that counts.

I personally think your "weeds" were quite lovely. :-)
