So, yesterday's post came from some anger that I was feeling about an issue that went down at school. To preface: Our department is now 8 strong with 3 aides. We have grown in 6 years to that from just 3. That's pretty amazing! When a department gets that big, (as my special ed director likes to point out) personalities clash and trouble ensues. What I think none of us expected was that the administration would pit us against each other. Basically, that is what happened Wednesday. The head honcho (HH) asked his two best friends in special ed to make a presentation to the staff that didn't include the rest of us and in fact, the rest of us didn't know about said presentation until about a day before. Of course, the staff doesn't know this and then they ask us questions about it. What can you do but shrug your shoulders? And it wasn't just me that had a problem with this. Everyone who wasn't "in the loop" felt pushed aside and dismissed. This had, of course, all been prompted by the head honcho. The guy who preaches the importance of communication every time he lays some speech on us (which is just about every other day).
So, at about 7 a.m. yesterday, Lil, one of HH's new BFF's came in the room (isn't this all so high schoolish? Sad that this is still happening in the adult, supposed professional world), sort of near tears about how bad she felt about Wednesday. How she was up all night because she had taken part in such conniving activities. She explained that she should have said something to HH and NG regarding the need to include everyone (which is a laugh because she is obviously living in a dream world if she thinks she would have any influence on the agenda those two have). It seemed that she was sincere but Lisa wondered if she had been sent up to see what our reaction to all of this was. I said, no, she seemed truly upset. Sorry Lisa, I was wrong.
About 2 hours later, the HH sent out an "appology" (yes, that is how he spelled it) expressing how everything that had occurred on Wednesday was his fault, open communication blah, blah, blah. My reaction: Whatever. I'm doing my job. I'll speak up to what affects me and the students on my caseload. I'll follow the law and I'll ride all of this out until the powers that be get swept under the pile of shit that they've been shoveling for the past month or so. Smile. Don't cross your arms. Do your job!

The extra "p" in apology stands for pile of shit. Keep your head up. I am not sure what the HH is hoping to get out of this power play. California here you come, and maybe you will just have to stay.
Yes, always remember to not cross your arms. Ahh, crikey! I think I'll cross my arms all the time now.
Maggie - I like your interpretation of the extra "p", but Muir is not allowed to stay in California. I'm just sorry to say. Her moving to California would be directly responsible for my mental breakdown at work. How about we share custody of her? You can have her on weekends and summers, and I'll take her during the work week. Okay, now I'm being totally ridiculous, so I'll shut up.
You two funny lady!
If she moves to California, you will have a few more sisters coming too. Now do you really want that?
