A Mystery

Okay - so let me preface:  I'm teaching The Help to both my Language Arts classes.  Because I don't have enough books for both sets of students to each have their own books to use, the classes share.  At the beginning of the year, I had each kid in the class write their name in pencil in the cover.  That means that for each book, there were two names in it.  I also told the kids that they could mark IN PENCIL as we read to help them find answers to questions.  BUT!!!  If they marked in pen, at any time, they would owe me a copy or the money to buy a used copy (since all mine were bought used). 

Well, yesterday - 6th period, one of my students goes, "Uh-oh Mrs. Hanke!  Look!"  And I walk over and the chapter we had just read that day had been marked, underlined, in PEN!  Red pen!  Now - each kid ONLY uses the one book so there was only one student who it could be.  So!  I email the parent, explain what happened and tell her what needs to happen.  She says okay, she'd be buying a book last night (there's more to the emails she sent but I won't get into all that...lets just say she's a country, moronic bumpkin and the apple doesn't fall far!).  So I check my email today and of course, she emails and says she asked her son about it and he said he "doesn't own a red pen and doesn't know what I'm talking about".  I'll have to do a bit of investigating.  See if A) I'm wrong and another student did it (give the kid the benefit of the doubt) B) See if the kid used a red pen in any of his other classes yesterday or C) check to see if maybe there was pen already in the book that I just didn't know about (doubtful) - I'll know if the part that's underlined is a part that was a comprehension question for my class.  Regardless...it isn't a big deal and I actually do hope the kid didn't do it because JAYSUS!  I'm sick of kids not listening to me!!!

And that's about all I've got.  I was going to do a crock pot dinner tonight but then I saw LaRosa's meatballs at the store yesterday and I thought about meatball hoagies and when I mentioned that to Jim last night on the phone, I swear, I could feel the drool through the phone.  He's very excited.  He even woke up talking about how excited he is for a meatball hoagie tonight.  I kinda am too!  K - I'm out...later!  HAPPY FRIDAY!!!
