Someone Put Glue In My Eyes

I could barely open my eyes this morning. When the alarm went off, I thought it was Monday again. That's a nightmare. However, the up side? I slept all the way through the night. I didn't wake up to roll over or with a pain in my shoulder. And I had some crazy dreams. Nothing to report, however, I barely remember them. Just that Maggie and Charlie were detectives and investigating a crime - someone missing, I think. Jim was trying to "help" and guess what? That's right, he blew their cover. Apparently he had found the relatives to this missing person and they were owners of a Chinese restaurant. Well, instead of going to some other place to phone Maggie and Charlie of his find, he made the phone call in the restaurant with the owners standing right there. That's all I remember. More than I thought.

So, work is work. People are shady and underhanded, still! Go figure. So here's an example: Yesterday I was talking to my colleague, we'll call her Juice. She has a student on her caseload (he was on my caseload last year), we'll call him Brenden, who causes certain teachers a bit of a problem. Now, he never caused me issues and is still very respectful to me but if you give this kid an inch, he'll take 4 miles. Anyway, at the end of the 2nd quarter, one of my other colleagues, NG, wanted to move him out of the math class she co-teaches. She claimed this was because he had the ability to go into Geometry but in reality, it was because she can't control him and he acts like an ass with her. Understand too, Juice (Brenden's case manager) didn't want to move him. Well, guess what? Brenden got moved into Geometry without Juice's knowledge - Crazee ended up telling her.

Now, the kid struggled all 3rd quarter in Geometry. His first teacher apparently had issue with him and he was moved to another teacher. This other teacher, not that he wanted the kid out of his class, recognized that he was struggling and contacted Juice. He found out then that Brenden hadn't been in Geometry all year and no wonder he was struggling in his class - he had missed a whole semester of concepts! The teacher then recommended that he move back into his original math class. So, Brenden's counselor, Brenden and Juice all met to discuss a move back into his original math and it was all set. See, he had failed 3rd quarter which meant that he needed a C 4th quarter to pass for the year and rather than struggle with Geometry where this may or may not happen, he could move into the other math and pass without worry. Decision made, right? Wrong.

Fast forward to yesterday. Juice saw the counselor in the hall and said, "What's up with Brenden? Did you make the schedule change?" The counselor said, "Oh, Juice! I've been meaning to talk to you." She then proceeds to tell Juice that Brenden has been dropped out of math altogether, he'll receive an F for the year and repeat math next year at the Career Center. HUH!!!??? Apparently, moving him back into his original math class caused a big stink with NG and the regular ed teacher she co-teaches with and they got it okayed with Brenden's mother to fail him!!! I mean really! A kid has a chance to pass a class - a good chance! A C is absolutely getable. And what do these morons do? Fail him! He apparently even said when this all came up, "I can't believe you're doing this to me!" If this kid were on my caseload (if I were Juice), I think I would be forced to go to HH because he always claims to be all about what's good for kids! I'd put him to the test. I mean, as a teacher, yes, I'd like to decide to keep the "good" kids and kick the "bad" ones out of my class but, um, that isn't an option, nor should it be! I'm flabbergasted! What good teachers we have at my school!!!
