I Love Fridays!

I'm so ready for it to be Friday! The closer we get to a nice break the more tired I am on Fridays. Did that make any sense? It's so hard for me to get up out of bed but once I do, I'm rarin' to go. Problem is, I'm flying by the seat of my pants at work - well in Language Arts. See, we just finished reading a novel and I don't want to start anything major yet because exams are a couple of weeks away.
So, the other day I started a lesson on facts vs. opinions. Then, yesterday I came up with the brilliant idea of having the students do an opinion essay! I was standing in front of the class, discussing things and suddenly an idea popped into my mind and I voiced it: "So, our next hurdle is to write an opinion essay - informal - on an issue we - duh - have an opinion about." I'm so stupid! What was I thinking? I know I have to "teach" the kids to write and they need the practice but it is the biggest, most painful thorn in my arse! They suck! They can't write. I must have told them again and again on the last short-essay assignment that it was to be 3 paragraphs! Three!!! Not 10! Three. I ended up with a handful of papers that were either 1 huge paragraph of run on and fragmented sentences or they had paragraphs with 2 sentences. I had one kid who had a TOTAL of 3 sentences. He got a 3% by the way. I had to give him points because the 3 sentences he did write were actually good. Good meaning they English and not a mish mash of words that made no sense.
Anyway, you should hear the topics that some of them chose: Why we should have our pets with us at school (I changed it so he has to write why we SHOULDN'T); Why students should be allowed to wear hats in school; why students should be allowed to use their i-Pods in school; why criminals should get harsher punishments. It goes on. They want me to send their essays to the principal after we finished. Yeah! Like I want the administration to what a sucky teacher I am! I'm not doing that until I have my next 3-year contract in my hand.

So, I best scittily scat upstairs and finish getting ready! By the way, the robe that Jimmy got me (I tried to return it yesterday for a full-length one but they didn't have any) is awesome! If you love robes like I do - go to Target and get one of their soft fluffy, to-your-knees robe! You won't be sorry! I really wanted to wear it to school but I guess that would be inappropriate!
Ghost Whisperer and Lisa Williams tonight!!! (I just heard you call me a loser Maggie! That's not nice!)
