Fingers Crossed

So I won't bitch about sitting in the exam room for 2 hours before being seen by the doctor (other than her popping her head in for 2 seconds saying she's be right there and then an hour later...) because I already did that on FB. Yesterday's appointment was better than I thought it would be but only because I thought we were going to hear that there wasn't any other drug to try. Instead, the doc decided to put Jim on prednisone while also on his Zelboraf. This, she hopes, will stave off the side effects and allow this drug to do its job. She said she's never tried it before which I find interesting since I googled the drug with prednisone and this is commonly tried with patients. Of course this doc doesn't have a lot metastatic melanoma patients so there you go. Jim goes back next Monday to get blood drawn and see how he's fairing. (I won't be able to go to that appointment because I have an IEP.) She doesn't want to get another PET scan until this drug has been in his system for a while (mid-late October) either, which is fine...he just had one in August. Fingers crossed that the prednisone does the trick.

In other/similar news - Jim made an appointment with another doctor who does specialize in melanoma. The referral was made to Jim by the director of UC's cancer institute. Unfortunately the appointment isn't until October 20th but better then than never. I really just want to see what this guy has to say about what he should be doing and if what he's doing is the right way to go. We'll see.

Today should be a nice and relaxing day. My LA classes will be working on review sheets for Othello (we finished yesterday and I think the kids really liked it). I wish I could show the movie but it's rated R and has nudity. My science class has a test so it will be an easy day and I'll be able to get my next IEP complete.
